What Intel Profile Should I use- 14900k Z790Dark Hero

Good Afternoon

My previous chip got RMAd by my provider, after the well documented crashes and system freezes. and thankfully I got my new chip the week after (thanks Scan PC UK- great service!).

Yesterday I updated my Asus Dark Hero Mobo bios to the 1503 version with the microcode. All seems great so far after installation today and no issues stress testing it etc so hopefully all good.

My question is which profile setting should I use for the 14900k on Dark Hero Motherboard Z790. I have left everything at the bios settings and just enabled the xmp. The two options I am talking of are the "performance" or the "extreme" options, which is the best for 14900k pls. from the text it reads as though the extreme might only be for the 14900ks but Im not sure.

Thanks

WillW

Hi Willwebster,

Thank you for creating a thread in Intel Communities.

Regarding your concern, our suggestion is we recommend that you use extreme profile if your board’s Voltage Regulator (VR) and motherboard is designed to support it.

Usually a Z790 chipset board will support extreme profile, but kindly reach out to your board manufacturer to confirm this.

The perdormance profile (for some reason I don't know) reduces processor speed and increases vcore. The extreme profile reacts better but the vcore also increases. My conclusions are that the bios with micro code 0x-129 is only in beta and we should wait for the final version.
