"Unable to start Intel Extreme Tuning Utility because the drivers are not present." on i9-13900k

Hello,

About a year ago I used XTU to slightly undervolt my i9-13900k to address frequent crashes in a game. This resolved the crashes, but a few months later I noticed that XTU would no longer start - it displayed a white box indefinitely. I tried reinstalling the software but this did not fix the issue.

More recently I've been experiencing crashes in a different game, as well as stability issues with other programs, and would like to revert the changes I made in XTU. I completely removed XTU per the directions in this guide, deleted all associated files, and reinstalled the latest version of the software from the Intel website.

It still will not start, and now displays the error message: "Unable to start Intel Extreme Tuning Utility because the drivers are not present. Install the latest version of Intel Extreme Tuning Utility"

I'm running Windows 10 version 10.0.19045, my motherboard is the MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk WiFi DDR4, and my BIOS is version 7D91v1D1

Hi agoodman13,

Thank you for posting in the Community.

I've noticed that you're on the BIOS version 7D91v1D1 which is outdated based on the MSI website. I suggest updating the BIOS to the latest 7D91v1F and seek assistance with MSI to avoid any further error with BIOS update: MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4

It is also indicated that you ensure you have the latest BIOS revision installed, available from your motherboard manufacturer. See the link for reference: Product Features and Requirements for Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility

Let me know if the issue still persists.

Best regards,

Thanks for the response,

I updated my BIOS to 7D91v1F as requested and XTU still displays the same error.

If you have not already done so, install the latest Intel chipset driver, version 10.1.19899.8597 dated 2025-01-13 from the MSI support site for your board. From the Other Drivers section download and install the Intel Management Engine Driver version 2425.6.26.0 dated 2025-01-13. From the same section install Intel Serial IO Drivers version 30.100.2417.30 also dated 2025-01-13. Restart your computer.

I attempted to install the chipset driver 10.1.19899.8597 but the installation fails, citing an "unknown error." I installed the other two drivers and restarted my pc, XTU still won't start.

You need to raise this as a support issue with MSI, this page shows how to ask a question through a Web Ticket (see bottom of page) . One claimed solution is to install the previous version of the MSI Intel chipset driver and then the latest one which avoids the error message happening. MSI do not list the previous driver but you could ask them to send it to you as a download.
