I'm starting a new NIOS II software project use the NIOS II IDE.
It's a blank project using the wizard. For my target hardware I select the ptf file created by the Quartus tools. When I'm at the last step I get the following error message. ---------------------- Invalid project description. D:/Alarmco/2004/PermaPlay/FPGA/Cyclone/V2V00-17/software/dhrystone_0_syslib and D:/Alarmco/2004/PermaPlay/FPGA/Cyclone/V2V00-17/software overlap. ------------------ Any clues as to what's wrong?? gmLink Copied

I don't quite understand it, but after running into this many times, I have found that what you really want to do is "create new C/C++ application", not project.
A good explanation of "what is a project", "what is an application" is needed.- Mark as New

Can anyone help my out?
I've built a NIOS II in a Cyclon FPGA using SOPC and the latest quartus. I'm trying to start the IDE and create a software projecy. I've tried both the New Project wizard and New C/C++ Wizard. Both give me the same error message ---------------------- Invalid project description. D:/Alarmco/2004/PermaPlay/FPGA/Cyclone/V2V00-17/software/dhrystone_0_syslib and D:/Alarmco/2004/PermaPlay/FPGA/Cyclone/V2V00-17/software overlap. ------------------ I've tried all the different types of projects and all give the same error message. I can find the ptf file and the proper cpu in that file. I'm dead in the water. Help [a not so happy simely face goes here!!!] george- Mark as New

Well I've solved this one.
tns1 was correct it's all a mystery on projects and applications with no good explaination. The Navigator Pane has Navigator and Projects Tabs. Selecting the projects tab let me see the projects I had created as I was experimenting with the IDE. Deleting those projects and starting freas solved my error messages. MORE DOCUMENTATION IS NEEDED. Thanks George
