I am wondering what the BSP in the BSP template means and what does the EDS mean as well.

Hi,

EDS : Embedded Design Suite. See http://www.altera.com/devices/processor/nios2/tools/ni2-development_tools.html

This is the Suite which integrates NIOS II + HAL drivers + BSP Editor + Eclipse (customized by Altera) + Flash Programmer + ... + templates + ...

BSP : Board Support Package. It is like the old "system library" in the legacy Nios II IDE. It contains the C-MAcros, drivers, for the specific board you are working for.
