nios as a replacement for FTDI

Hello there,

Is it possible to replace FTDI to UART chip with a Nios&FPGA equivalent ?

In the end what I would like to do is:

- load a sof into the De0 nano

- via a terminal or console on a PC, send some command lines which will instruct the Nios processor to read an address of an external eeprom.

the command lines will be such that there would be no need to recompile the software, but instead it would be considered as part of a script.

Can something like that be achieved ?

Any pointer to help me get up to speed quickly?
