Hi,
I am a total noob to embedded development and have found the uKit to be a very good learning platform. Anyone know if a perl port to niosII exists? I doubt it, as it would probably be included in microtronix uclinux distro if it did... Thanks! buck http://forum.niosforum.com/work2/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gifLink Copied

Hi,
I don't think an official port to nios exists. I remember when I researched this topic, that someone did manage to port perl to uClinux, but it had a few shortcomings. One was them was, perl executable and libraries were a few megabytes in size, which is not good if you want to keep your design small. What is the need for perl in your application? There must be another way to accomplish the same task. -Thomas- Mark as New

I remember trying to port Perl to the Nios and I had massive problems trying to get the configure script to run to completion.
I agree with tlaskowski... unless there's a truly compelling reason to run Perl (which I'm guessing would run fairly slowly), I would search for a 'C' solution to the problem.- Mark as New

Thanks for all of your replies!
My interest in perl for NiosII/uClinux is strictly curiousity and of course my lust for all things perl... http://forum.niosforum.com/work2/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif ....plus I saw a perl based cgi script in one of the boa examples included in the linux distro.... thanks again... buck
