System timer overhead

Anybody knows what could be the system timer overhead on a Nios II processor running with 80MHz clock ?

I have noticed my 1ms system timer was not precise enough and I changed it in SOPC builder to be 200us (5 ticks per milisecond) and my system stopped working completelly...

I have to rebuild SOPC back yet to be 1ms, or maybe 500us to test it, but so far it looks like my system timer cannot be 200us.

Anybody experimented with system timer overhead ?
