how to study nios?

i am a beginner,i don't know much about nios.so how can i start to study nios.i found some reference books on altera's web,but i found out that they are not suitable for beginner.so what can i do,where can i find some simple examples? 

another problem is that people around me do not know nios,either.so there is nobody can teach me.can you give me some advices? Thank you very much!
