Technically speaking, because the memory controllers are in the chipset (MCH or GMCH component) and not in the processor, the processor has no memory type, size or speed to speak of. You need to be asking based upon what motherboard you have, what chipset it supports and the type of memory (i.e., whether DDR2 or DDR3) that it supports. Typically,

• If you have a 3 Series Chipset, you are limited to 8GB of DDR2 memory.
• If you have a 4 Series Chipset, you are limited to either 8GB of DDR2 memory or 8/16GB of DDR3 memory.

The motherboard's BIOS (memory initialization code) plays a significant role in determining the memory speeds and densities supported. Bottom line, you need to look at the documentation for your motherboard in order to answer this question.
