13900KF overheat - cores hit 100c while testing and playing games

Hello!

I need some guidance to understand if I have a overheat problem with 13900KF or if this is a common situation.

I just built my new PC and I noticed high temperature when running some benchmarks.

I set CoreTemp to notify me when a core hit 95c+ and it happens A LOT, like 1 notification every 5 seconds in one or more cores while playing games (i.e. path of exile, cyberpunk, witcher 3, starfield) or benchmarking using some tools like Intel Extreme Tuning Utility.

Here is a Log of CPU Stress Test:

I also attached the File Logging (MonitorLog2023-09-24_21-12-10-629.csv) - please tell me if there is a better way to share details of a test.

Also, I noticed that the motherboard cpu socket also hits high temperature, something around 90~95c.

I have a Coller NOCTUA CHROMAX, 120MM, NH-D15S CH.BK, reinstalled twice following the best practices to make sure it is not a installation problem.

The fan tuning is set like the screen shoot below and I am sure the fan spin following the rules, I tried 0% fan speed below 50c and the fan stopped when idle (around 40c) and 100% fan speed while over 1c and it worked as expected.

I tried read and understand the CPU Stress Test from Intel Extreme Tuning Utility but am, unable to understand whats really going on.

Can anyone please help me?

do I need another cooler?

do i have any wrong configuration? Do I have to reduce "Turbo Per Core Limit Control" (I saw this solution in some cases).

Is my CPU destroying my motherboard?

Here is my full spec:

Hello @seitam

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities.

We understand you are experiencing temperature spikes, and I am glad to tell you that the spikes are not necessarily a cause for concern.

When the system is idle, the temperature of the processor is not as high as when the system is running a workload. Having temperature spikes or having high or maximum temperatures while running a workload—such as games—isn't necessarily cause for concern. Intel processors constantly monitor their temperature and can rapidly adjust their frequency and power consumption to prevent overheating and damage.

However, just to make sure everything is working properly, please check this: Overheating Symptoms and Troubleshooting for Intel® Boxed Processors

Also, in order to have more information about your system, please download, install and run Intel® System Support Utility for Windows. Make sure you check “Everything” before you scan, then save the report and attach it to your response.

Best regards,

Hello @Jose_Intel

Thank you for your reply and guidance.

I've completed all the steps mentioned in Overheating Symptoms and Troubleshooting for Intel® Boxed Processors, the situation is the same.

Here is a new screenshot of the test executing after double check all the steps in the troubleshoot.

Also, I attached a file about my system.

Hello Jose!

Thank you! I updated the BIOS.

but after upgrading BIOS I noticed MANY crashes caused by memory using dual channel. I am still investigating, but I have a stable situation using a different memory slot, single ram (it was 32gb dual channel, now it is 16gb, different channel slot) - looks like I have a momery issue here but I will reach Trident Z support for help.

Anyway, I am running a single ram sticker now.

Looks like the CPU temperature decreased A LOT while gaming, before the bios update i had 100c in many cores and package hit 95c many times within 5 minutes of gaming, now the max temp is one core with 81c and max package temp ~65c.

I run all tests and post prints below, but looks like CPU is Power Limit Throttling, is there anything specific I can do to fix?

CPU Stress Test (Current/EDP Limit Throttling on the beginning of the test, Power Limit Throttled in 90% of the test)

CPU Stress Test with AVX (Current/EDP Limit Throttling on the beginning of the test, Power Limit Throttled in 90% of the test)

CPU Stress Test with AVX2 (Current/EDP Limit Throttling on the beginning of the test, Power Limit Throttled in 80% of the test)

Memory Stress Test (Current/EDP Limit Throttling many times while testing, Power Limit Throttled in 90% of the test, also max package temp was 83c at start of the test, but stable at ~60c)

EDIT:

I forgot to activate File Logging, let me know if that helps, i can run all tests again enabling this option and attach the result here.

Hello seitam

Thank you for patiently waiting.

Please check this information What Is Throttling and How Can It Be Resolved?

Sometimes it can be changed in BIOS, so for further assistance please get in contact with the system manufacturer.
