Hello everyone,
I have a 14900K running in a Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX Mainboard.
If I use the last "stable" bios, a lot of games won't even start.
If I use the last beta-bios from beginning of July, I can start the games but they are crashing sometimes with or without error messages.
I can reduce the occurrences by using the intel profile "performance" instead of "extreme" in the bios. But crashes still happen. (ICC MAX 400a / PL1=2 253w)
I can further reduce the number of crashes by limiting the core boost speed to 5,7ghz and PL1=PL2 125w but it still happens every few hours during gaming. By the way, using these seetings result in lower core tempatures from around 100° celcius to approx. 85°.
What else can I do expect of waiting for the next "fix"? I can just reduce the ICC MAX level to 300a or 350a, I can't select 307a in the bios.
Or should I ask the customer service?

Hello @ChrisKloß
Setting 307a is possible on the Gigabyte Z790 aeorus X AX, it was hidden under the same menu as the PL1 and PL2, if you go down the list of PL the last two items they are the max A.
I also had the same issue as yours and setting PL1 and PL2 to 125W including, using performance profile then setting up all recommended intel settings plus capping CPU amp to 307a I get a max temp of ~70c.
Also make sure that the heat paste is right, sadly checking = need to re-apply.
I for one am waiting for the firmware update on this, I also have a support ticket open with Intel and for now they are not keen to replace the cpu much, they just say well if it works with low setting... meh even if I paid good money for this cpu and it is not doing what it should.
I am with you in this, it is so bad me that moved from AMD back to Intel and into this....

Thx for the 307a bios trick
Sad to hear that they don't try to replace the CPU. So many uncertainties related to this issue.
