7820x stuttering

MY 7820x is stuttering in games. My FPS is all over the places. Some reviewers agree with me as well:

The FPS over time are inconsistent which is why stuttering occurs. Some said the Turbo Boost 3.0 is buggy for the 7820x.

It's strange that the 7900x doesn't exhibit this issue. The 7820x suffers from it. I hope the engineers or whoever will take a serious look at this and offer a solution.

If you disable the Intel® Turbo Boost in the BIOS do you get the same problem?

I think turning off Turbo Boost 3.0 from the BIOS helped. I need to measure it thoroughly to be sure though.

I have the same problem: Intel i7 7820x + MSI SLI PLUS x299. Last bios and drivers. When i activate Intel Turbo Bost in BIOS Photoshop CC and Bridge CC crashes imidietly

When i disable it crashes stoped.

  • Are all the games tested affected?
  • Have you tested different in-game settings to see if something changes?

I had the same problem on my 7820x and MSI gaming pro carbon board. FPS would drop markedly in games by more than half and there would be terrible stuttering. CPU usage and GPU usage would be very low while this was happening. Disabling turbo boost 3.0 through the intel utility fixes the problem immediately. Enabling causes the stutter to reappear.

I want to put out a solution to another post here started by /message/496524# 496524 Piotr_K) about his unstable 7820x build.

Although it is a different problem to yours, but your stutterning game experience may be caused by the same problem. System instability caused by a too low Vcore setting.

Hi,

I had the same issue, before I did disable the Turbo Boost 3.0. I am not a heavy gamer, so I felt this issue only on two games out of four - Battlefield 1 (felt a bit of stutter) and Mafia 3 (running it @1440p mostly it was around 90 FPS everything maxed out, but once in few seconds (3 - 6 s) there were massive FPS drops - to 50, 30 and sometimes even 10 FPS's that was creating a very noticeable stuttering). On the other hand Doom was running fine.

My PC specs:

CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-7820X (default - not overclocked)

MOBO: ASUS Prime X299-Deluxe LGA 2066 Intel X299

RAM: 32GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB - 3200 MHz

VIDEO: ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

CPU Cooling: Hydro Series™ H110i GT 280mm Extreme Performance

PSU: Corsair AX860i

BIOS: Version 0802

As mentioned above, after disabling Turbo Boost 3.0 the problem was gone.

So my question is what is the root cause of this issue and why it is not addressed on so many manufacturers devices??! Is this a BIOS problem - but then the question why this problem is common not only for ASUS mobos, but also seen comments related to MSI?

If this is something from Intel, then again why this is not investigated properly and sorted out? This problem is still the case with BF4, BF1, and several other games. If this was a bug, why isn't it still fixed after almost 1 year time?

Today i spent some time dealing with this. When you disabled Intel Boost Max 3.0 Technology program in system tray everything works fine. When enabled hicks up now and then in game, resulting in bad frame rate or stutters.

Either our workaround is disable your program? Or fix it in the program?

Please attach to this thread the TXT file the Intel® System Support Utility will generate: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility

 

Steps to save the report:
  1. Run the utility.
  2. Click on "Scan" to get the scanned system.
  3. Once the scan is complete click on "next".
  4. Use the "save" option, save the report to your desktop.
  5. To attach a file, you must click the "Attach" option on the bottom right-hand corner of the response box.

 

Run the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool) save the report on your desktop and attach it to the thread.
