8086k only showing 8x pcie max.

Noticed the cpu was only running at 8x after who knows how long. EVGA Z370 micro motherboard.

Found this post in support and tried it in a Gigabyte Z390 UD motherboard bought new off amazon, still stuck at 8x pcie. Is there anything that could cause this in 2 different boards. I have a celeron on the way to test pcie connection with a different cpu.

Hello LEric6,

Thank you for submitting your question on this Intel® Community.

To better assist you, we would like to have more information.

  • Which devices/peripherals are you connecting to the motherboards?
  • How you are monitoring the PCIe usage? If possible, please attach pictures.

Annotation 2020-02-10 125520.pngSingle graphics card in the top x16 slot, no other pcie devices, sata storage only.

Stripped to basics for troubleshooting. Both motherboards have a connected device monitor in the bios and also using Techpowerup gpu-z. All confirm 16x device and 8x link

Troubleshooting attempted so far:

Remove graphics card. clean edge connector and reseat.

Test with 2nd known good gpu, still 8x.

Inspect motherboard. looks good.

Buy cheapest new z390 I can find.

now still at 8x pcie with either gpu in either motherboard.

Picture is with the 2nd gpu I took out of another system that I verified is working at 16x

Hello LEric6,

We would like to continue doing research about this behavior.

  • Please generate a system report with the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) and attach it to this thread.

  1. Intel® SSU Download link
  2. Open the application and click on "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel® SSU will take you to the "Summary View".
  3. Click on the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
  4. To save your scan, click on "Next", then "Save".

  • Is the BIOS up to date?
  • As soon as you can test another processor, Celeron Processor, please let us know if it shows the same behavior.

I have ran the utility and saved the results file. Gigabyte motherboard is on the latest available bios, Evga motherboard is flashed to earlier bios for testing at the moment. Same behavior either way.

Celeron G4920 is already purchased, just waiting for delivery and time to test.

Hello LEric6,

Thank you for your response.

It seems that the file was not attached. Try attaching the file on the thread.

This could be a processor hardware issue. If installing another compatible processor fixes this issue, then what we can recommend is that you replace the processor.
