Issue: What occurs inside the chip of the processor during the reset.
Typically, when a CPU chip receives power, it needs to undergo a reset, which involves sending a reset signal to its RESET (or RST) pin. This is necessary because when the power supply starts up, the CPU may receive unstable voltage levels. Digital logic chips like CPUs require precise voltage levels, and any deviations can cause issues. So, immediately after powering up, the CPU is reset to establish a known starting state. This reset operation is usually handled automatically by the motherboard's circuitry when power is applied. The RESET pin, which is often active-low, needs to be activated for a specific number of clock cycles to reset the CPU. After this reset, the CPU begins its operations.
In essence, the CPU's primary function is to execute instructions from memory. The CPU obtains these instructions from memory, which comprises both RAM (temporary workspace) and ROM (permanent code). RAM is where the CPU temporarily stores data it's actively working with, while ROM contains code that the CPU reads every time it powers up, essentially serving as the initial set of instructions. The CPU communicates with memory (both RAM and ROM) through the address bus, sending specific combinations of 1s and 0s on the address bus lines to select a particular memory location. The memory chips respond by sending the contents of the chosen memory cell over the data bus to the CPU.
Each CPU has a specific memory location where it begins reading instructions after a reset. Some CPUs directly jump to a predetermined point to start execution, while others use a "reset vector" that points to the memory address where instruction execution should commence.
