Hi,
Looking for the best replacement motherboard that supports quick sync for our i9-12900k.
Our current HP 8917 Micro ATX Z690 that came with our build doesn't appear to support quick sync.
Current build:
OMEN Z690 45L Gaming Desktop PC
Operating system Windows 11 Pro
HP 8917 Micro ATX Z690
Processor Intel® Core™ i9- 12900K W/Liquid Cooler (3.2 GHz up to 5.2 GHz, 30 MB L3 cache, 16 cores, 24 threads)
Memory HyperX 64 GB DDR4-3733 MHz XMP RGB Heatsink RAM (4 x 16 GB)
Graphics card NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3090 (24 GB GDDR6X dedicated)
SSD Drive C - 2 TB WD Black PCIe® 4x4 NVMe™ TLC M.2 SSD
Thank you

The form factor is Micro ATX which is a standard size of board. So you need a Z690/Z790 board in this form factor that supports DDR4, and has the outputs for onboard graphics not present on the HP motherboard.
The main issue is the Micro ATX because the majority of Z690 (and Z790) boards are ATX size which simply will not fit.
One possibility is the Asus Prime Z790M-Plus D4. Being Z790 instead of Z690 will not be an issue as it will support the i9 12900K out of the box. I would suggest having a good look at this board on the Asus website and comparing it to your current HP board to make sure it will fit. There is also the ASRock Intel Z790M PG Lightning/D4 DDR4.
One detail to look at is whether there is support for HDMI output only, or HDMI and DisplayPort if this is a factor for you. The ASRock board has 1 HDMI only, the Asus Prime has 1 HDMI plus 1 DisplayPort.
Finally, are you sure you really need to do this. Although you don't have quick sync the NVIDIA graphics card does have NVENC that might well be an alternative and would avoid the need to switch out the mainboard.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I will research these boards.
Past experience with this PC. Have verified performance on Task Mgr. many times while using DR 18.6. CPU was generally, never over 25%
Received a Major Win. 11 update, Intel update, NVIDIA update all within 24 hrs. of posting on DR forum about how slow my build is.
After the update, this CPU would run at 100%. Maybe drop to 80-90% for a sec. and back to 100% and stay there. Temp didn't change. (water cooled) This lasted for 1 mo. until another update hit from all 3 Mfg. and all of a sudden CPU performance dropped to 10%. Strange ?
During this time I could perform major editing without DR needing to render cache. (Set to Auto) Everything was performing much better. So I think the quick sync might be the answer to open up decoding H.265. Maybe run monitors through the CPU vs GPU to open up more from GPU. Options I don't currently have. . . HP has me backed into a corner with this OMEN 45L micro build.
Thanks,
Jon
