CM8068404196302 vs CM8068404196302S

I am looking to purchase a Xeon E-2278GE processor. The part number listed on Intel's website is CM8068404196302. However, I have noticed a lot of vendors like Provantage and BLT have the part number CM8068404196302S listed. I can't find this part number listed anywhere on Intel's websites. 

Does anyone know what the difference between these part numbers are?

There is no information on our site regarding that specific part with the "S" termination, and there are no variations of that ordering code, but checking online I saw what you mentioned.

What I can conclude is that the "S" they are adding is the first letter of the "Spec Code", in this case being SRGDY, as seen in the Mouser site.

It may be possible to reach out to them directly for clarification, but this is most likely the case.

I did notice one place on Intel's website where this code is mentioned... see the product code below. Indeed it looks like the first letter of the spec code was added to the ordering number.
