CPU Instability with Processor Intel® Core™ i7-13700HX

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out to see if anyone else is experiencing similar issues or has advice on what to do next. I have an HP Omen 16 with a 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700HX processor, and I’ve been facing some frustrating CPU instability problems since late August 2024.

The Problem:

  1. High CPU Utilization During Gaming: The CPU often hits 100%, causing micro-freezes and lag that ruin the gaming experience.
  2. Idle State Issues: Sometimes, all the CPU cores (both P and E) are unnecessarily utilized, even when the system is idle.

What I’ve Tried:

I’ve been in contact with HP’s support team, but the troubleshooting they’ve suggested so far hasn’t resolved the issue. They insist that there’s no known problem with Intel’s 13th or 14th Gen CPUs, but I’ve seen a lot of reports online from others with similar issues, especially with Intel mobile processors.

What I’ve Found:

There’s a lot of discussion online, including on YouTube, about widespread instability in Intel’s 13th and 14th Gen processors (both desktop and laptop variants). It seems to be a growing concern, yet I’m not sure if there’s an official acknowledgment or fix in the works.

My Concerns:

  • Is this a hardware-level issue or something that could be fixed with a BIOS update or patch?
  • My warranty is still active, but I’m worried about long-term performance and usability if this isn’t addressed.
  • I feel stuck because HP support hasn’t been able to provide clear answers or solutions.

Questions for the Community:

  1. Has anyone else faced similar issues with their 13th Gen Intel processors?
  2. Are there any updates, workarounds, or fixes that you know of?
  3. Is this something I should push harder with HP or Intel to resolve?

I’d really appreciate any advice, insights, or shared experiences. Thanks in advance!
