Hello GFerr27
Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.
We understand you would like to know if it is possible to safely upgrade your laptop's processor to an Intel® Core™ i5-9600K Processor (Desktop Segment). A desktop Processor must be socket, chipset, and BIOS compatible with the motherboard.
Regarding your inquiry, even if your processor and laptop socket match, it's critical to make sure that your laptop BIOS, chipset, chassis, and thermal design support the processor. Despite it is known there are some laptops in the market that support desktop processors, usually, desktop and mobile processors are not interchangeable. Some laptops may even come with soldered-down processors and an upgrade may not be possible or it may be a complex process.
The Intel® Core™ i5-9600K Processor support Socket FCLGA1151 and other Product Specifications can be found in the below link:
https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/134896/intel-core-i5-9600k-processor-9m-cache-up-to-4-60-ghz.html
We also have the Intel® Desktop Compatibility Tool where you can find a list of compatible motherboards for the Intel® Core™ i5-9600K Processor, however, the list only shows boards targeted for desktop systems (form factors "ATX, Mini-ITX, microATX) and there are no laptops listed in the list.

Since the improper installation of a processor may cause serious damage to the installer, system, and processor, before attempting to install a new processor, we recommend you to contact the technical support team of the laptop manufacturer for accurate information regarding compatibility and upgrade options.
