Can My Processor Handle a QHD Monitor?

I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy Book 2 and I'm considering using it as a desktop by purchasing a QHD, 144Hz monitor. I want to ensure that I can achieve 144Hz at QHD resolution. After searching for the processor specifications, I found that it supports 8K at 60Hz when using DisplayPort (DP). Given this, can I expect to achieve 144Hz at the much lower grade, QHD resolution if I connect the monitor using a DP adapter?

I assume that the GB2 has an HDMI outlet to allow a second display to be used. The maximum resolution that it supports may be less than the maximum resolution supported by the CPU or it may be the same.

Does the manual for your GB2 say anything about this? Is there a second display setup on your GB2 and does that indicate anything about resolution. If not you should contact the Samsung support team for your GB2 and ask them for the answer.

Your processor supports DisplayPort 1.4a and HDMI 2.1.

If using the DisplayPort output,

• The maximum bit rate for a standard (HBR2) cable is 17.28 Gbit/s and for an enhanced (HBR3) cable is 25.92 Gbit/s.
• A QHD (2560x1440) monitor running at 144Hz requires a bit rate of 14.08 Gbit/s.
• Bottom line, no issues supporting this monitor on DisplayPort.

If using HDMI,

• The maximum bit rate for a High Speed cable is 8.16 Gbit/s, Premium High Speed is 25.92 Gbit/s and Ultra High Speed is 42.6 Gbit/s.
• A QHD (2560x1440) monitor running at 144Hz requires a bit rate of 14.08 Gbit/s.
• Bottom line, you need to use a Premium High Speed cable if you want to support QHD at 144Hz.
• As @pressed_for_time stated, the maximum resolution for HDMI ports in a laptop may be artificially limited by the laptop design. You thus need to understand exactly what your particular laptop actually supports.
