Hi:
I have a stock 13900K with the Asus TUF Gaming z690 D4 motherboard (with latest 3701 bios). CPU SVID is "Typical Processor".
No overclocking.
I seem to have trouble running AVX2 stress test with no offset. Tests usually fail within 15 minutes.
Only when I set the offset to 3, can I run the test for hours with no errors (see below). Why is this the case?
Also, can we get warning/error messages time stamped?
Thanks,
David

Hello SmartOne_2000,
To assist you further, could you please let us know if you have tried resetting the BIOS to its default settings? If so, does the issue remain unchanged?
Additionally, we kindly request that you provide the System Support Utility (SSU) logs to help us understand your system's configuration better. You can download the Intel® System Support Utility for Windows* from the following link:
Intel® System Support Utility for Windows*
Here’s a brief guide on how to use the Intel SSU:
Download and launch SSU.exe.
Check the box for "Everything."
Click "Scan."
Once the scanning is complete, click "Next."
Click "Save."
Please send us the saved file from the SSU.
We also need to know when the issue first started and whether the system was functioning correctly before.
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Best regards,
John Craig S.

Sorry for the late response, Dean.
Problem still persists with default bios settings. I know there were no AVX2 failures with my 12900K cpu. But I've not been lucky with the 13900K cpu.

We recommend updating BIOS with Microcode 0x129 for systems configured with 13th and 14th Generation Processors with CPUID 0xB0671.
The microcode update (0x129) will limit voltage requests above 1.55V as a preventative mitigation for processors not experiencing instability symptoms. This microcode update will primarily improve operating conditions for K/KF/KS processors, with less impact on non-K Series processors. Analysis is ongoing to address other scenarios that can result in this Vmin shift on Intel Core 13th and 14th Gen desktop processors (list of vulnerable processors is here Additional Warranty Updates on Intel Core 13th/14th Gen Desktop Processors - Intel Community

Hi Dean ... I've already updated to the latest 0x129 microcode as the logs showed. I'm not exactly sure what you want me to do.

Hi SmartOne_2000,
It seems that the processor is faulty, and I highly suggest you contact your local warranty support team for them to gather the needed details and validate your processor and proceed with the replacement. Here's the link for reference

Just to add, this latest microcode update will primarily improve operating conditions for K/KF/KS processors. However, if you are experiencing consistent instability symptoms, they should reach out to their system manufacturer (OEM/System Integrator purchase), Intel Customer Support (boxed processor), or place of purchase (tray processor) for further assistance.
Intel Core 13th/ 14th desktop processors listed in this link are receiving a two (2) year warranty extension – up to a maximum of five (5) years – from the original date of purchase:

I only have one PC I use for my graduate studies and not having a functional computer for weeks on end due to the long and torturous RMA process is not an option.
Can I return and exchange this processor from BestBuy.com, the place I bought it from, about 20 minutes from my home?

Hi SmartOne_2000,
Yes, you may contact BestBuy for the warranty as well if that's what you prefer as long as you have your receipt.

Thanks Dean, now:
1. How do I know BestBuy has the fixed or corrected processors? How can I tell the processor they give me has the Vmin shift fix? Is their a code or something similar?
2. Do I have to go through the RMA process you suggested earlier before I go to BestBuy? What documentation from Intel do I have to present to them for the RMA?
3. After the RMA, do I still need to run the processor under the Intel Default profile setting sin BIOS, or can I run using the BIOS maker higher performance settings?
Regards,
David

Hi SmartOne_2000,
Here are my answers to your questions.
- Just to inform you, Incorrect voltages are one aspect of Vmin Shift Instability issues. Intel has delivered a microcode patch (0x129) as a partial mitigation addressing exposure to elevated voltages which is a key element of the Vmin Shift Instability issue. Intel Core 13th and 14th generation desktop processors affected by the Via Oxidation issue display similar symptoms to processors affected by the elevated voltage related Vmin Shift Instability issue, including OS and application hangs and errors. To be effective, the microcode patch (0x129) MUST be loaded via BIOS update when you receive the new CPU. You may contact your system or motherboard manufacturer for BIOS updates containing this microcode update (0x129).
- You may contact BestBuy first since you've mentioned to your previous message that it will take only 20 minutes to go to BestBuy. You may process RMA to us as well if you encountered difficulties in your place of purchase. To expedite warranty requests on Intel, provide the serial number (ATPO) found on the processor markings and other personal details for the shipping.
- As a general best practice Intel recommends users adhere to Intel Default Settings on their desktop processors. Intel is not changing the tuning capabilities of existing K sku processors. Users who desire to overclock or utilize higher power delivery settings than recommended can still do so at their own risk as overclocking may void warranty or affect system health (learn more at Overclock Your CPU with Unlocked Intel® Processors - Intel). To be effective, the microcode patch (0x129) MUST be loaded via BIOS update when you receive the new CPU. You may contact your system or motherboard manufacturer for BIOS updates containing this microcode update (0x129).
Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you Dean ...
1. I just contacted BB and the said that since they only have a 15-day return window, they cannot accept my 1.5 yr old 13900K cpu ... UNLESS I get an 'Authorization Number from Intel.' and then an exchange can happen,
So, how can I get this number?
2. I don't think you answered my first question. How can I be guaranteed that the newly exchanged processor will have the hardware fix? I believe you (Intel Corp) had earlier said the via oxidation bug issue was discovered and fixed right away and that it only affected earlier processors?
3. Have you done a hardware mod to your 13th/14th gen processors up to date to fix its bugs or are you solely relying on the 0x129 microcode fix to mitigate the issue?
4. If I get a new CPU, can I manually limit its voltage to say 1.55v or 1.500v and use a non-intel profile? The performance hit of the Intel Default profile is quite substantial. Cinebench R23 score is 39K (Non-Intel Default Profile) to 16 - 17K with Intel Defaults in my rig !. Not acceptable. I would rather find an alternative .... btw I NEVER overclock due to not-so-good cooling in my chassis. Just a simple under-volt is what I plan to do. This would be safe/ok and wouldn't damage the processor or void the warranty, right?
My processor specs are listed below.
Thanks,
David

Hi SmartOne_2000,
- I'll have to coordinate this with the warranty team for further assistance and I will get back to you once I have the necessary information.
- I don't have a concrete answer for that, but we suggest ensuring the system is running with the latest BIOS, which users can look up through their motherboard manufacturer’s website. Users can also learn more about how to update their BIOS by visiting the following site: How to Update BIOS - Intel. Utilizing the Intel Default Settings recommendations for their Intel Core 13th and/or 14th Gen desktop processor – including both Intel Core 13th and 14th Gen consumer, commercial, and entry workstation desktop systems.
- We are suggesting the latest BIOS update that includes the 0x129 microcode mitigating the issue.
- The microcode update (0x129) will limit voltage requests above 1.55V as a preventative mitigation for processors not experiencing instability symptoms. Intel evaluates RMA requests on a case-by-case basis. Customers who have already received a replacement processor may continue to enjoy the benefits of Intel’s warranty on the new part. Please note that overclocking and/or disabling the current and power limiting features of Intel’s processors may void Intel’s warranty. Intel recommends users to ensure they have updated to the latest BIOS and microcode for their board.
Let us know if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Dean R.
