Hi,
I have a Core i7 4770 which I cannot get to run at 3.4 GHz. Linux /proc/cpuinfo says:
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz
cpu MHz : 2993.038
I think the 3 GHz comes from these BIOS settings: Host clock = 100 Hz and the CPU multiplier = 30.
But the BIOS doesn't let me change them! So how can I get the processor to run at the correct speed?
Here are the hardware details (from dmidecode):
BIOS Information
Vendor: Intel Corp.
Version: MCH8710H.86A.0047.2013.0606.1508
Release Date: 06/06/2013
Base Board Information
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Product Name: DH87MC
Version: AAG74242-401

Hello AdamMorrison,
This is very interesting and I am investigating now to solve your problem. In the meantime, I would like to know the following:
- Have you over clocked the processor?
- Can you please run the Intel® Processor Diagnostics Tool and let us know the result?
- Can you also please post the Dxdiag report here?

Hi Kevin,
1. I have not overclocked the processor.
2. I have Linux installed, so I can't run the latest Processor Diagnostics Tool. The LiveCD version I found is version 1.17.1.0 from November 2011, is that good enough? Or can you point me to a version for Linux?
3. As above, I can't run DXDIAG since I'm on Linux.
Are there commands for Linux that can help?

Hi Kevin,
I reset the BIOS to factory defaults and that fixed the problem.
I don't know why I didn't think to do it before... maybe because I didn't make any changes. I guess my supplier somehow misconfigured things.
Thanks for your help!

Hello IonutP,
Can you please try doing the following steps?
1. Have you over clocked the processor?
2. Can you please run the Intel® Processor Diagnostics Tool and let us know the result?
4. Can you please restore the default settings at the BIOS level?
5. Can you also please post the Dxdiag report here?
