Hi,

I have my i7-950 sitting on an EVGA X58 SLI3 motherboard and am running Window 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Windows system information shows the following:

"Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz 2.79GHz"

Using various tools, they also show the core speed at ~2786.0 MHz, +- a few tenths. Shouldn't the core speed be at ~3070.0 MHz?

Thanks.

Check your BIOS. Your CPU is probably underclocked by 2X. You should be able to raise the multiplier to max which will give you 3.06 ghz. When I installed my Core i7 870 last year, my motherboard underclocked it by default to 2.67 ghz for some reason (stock speed is 2.93 ghz)

Bearclaw, I set the multiplier to 23 from 21 and now see 3050 MHZ -- not quite 23*133, but close enough. Thanks!

Adolfo, I checked and SpeedStep was disabled already. Thank you.

The Enhance Intel SpeedStep(R) Technology feature will lower the processor speed in order to save power consumption. I would recommend making sure that the Enhance Intel SpeedStep(R) Technology is disabled on the BIOS of the system in order to force the processor to run always at the maximum speed.
