Many people are installing the V8 and the V10 coolers the wrong way. The documentation that Coolermaster is providing is showing the picture to be inverted causing people to install the cooler improperly. Google it and you will the proper way to install your new cooler. You can also go to newegg.com and read the customer reviews and find that many are having the same issues.

Hi Brainwasher,

Thank you for pointing out the error in Coolermaster's documentation, much appreciated!

I would suggest that you highlight this and report it to coolermaster.

Thank you again, appreciate your efforts in this regard.

PDF Manual is here: http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/upload/download/147/files/Manual_V10.pdf http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/upload/download/147/files/Manual_V10.pdf

There is an installation guide here too: http://www.ninjalane.com/reviews/cooling/cm-v10/page2.aspx http://www.ninjalane.com/reviews/cooling/cm-v10/page2.aspx

I didn't see any problems with it.

Here are some common causes of this problem:

  • Too much heat sink compound, should be a very, very thin layer
  • Too little heat sink compound, should cover entire base
  • Unevenly spread heat sink compound
  • Overclocked CPU
  • Heat sink not properly contacting CPU Heat Spreader due to integrator error
  • Heat sink heatpipes not properly contacting CPUs with multiple cores at the points where the CPU cores touch the heat spreader due to warping or putting the heatsink on backward or at a 90 degree rotation.
  • Heat pipes that do not work unless situated a certain direction, some use gravity, some use osmosis
  • Warped heat sink base, causing it to improperly contact CPU, test on a flat surface to see if it has gaps, then test with paste to see if it spreads evenly.
  • Buffing heat sink base to remove microgrooves
  • Inadequate Power supply
Since it happened on both coolers, and assuming you've made none of the common mistakes above, maybe its your power supply. You can find a power supply calculator here (both are good): http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp http://educations.newegg.com/tool/psucalc/index.htmlIt can get frustrating, but be patient, and do your due-diligence research, it pays off in the end.Good luck.
