Could my memory controller be at fault? (I7 3770)

I made a build with an Asrock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard and a 2x4 kit of Corsair Vengeance 1600 1.5v (CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9).

Each stick works perfectly fine by themselves in any of the slots, but when I try to use both (in any combination, dual or single channel) I get a lot of errors in memtest86+ and BSODs.

I've been searching google for an answer since last week and one of the possibilities I've been led to believe is that it might be a problem with the memory controller in the CPU. Could anyone help me narrow this down?

Thank you.

For troubleshooting purposes please make sure you have the latest BIOS version of your motherboard in order to have loaded the latest micro code available for your processor.

After making sure the BIOS is on its latest version, feel free running the Intel® Processor Identification Utility to properly identify your processor. This utility enables consumers the ability to identify and, in some circumstances, determine if the processor is operating at the correct speed: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=7838 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=7838

You can also run the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool which will verify your processor's functionality: http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm
