Difference between Icelake and Icelake-SP

Hi,

Last year we bought 2 servers with processors Xeon Gold 6342 (Icelake). We wish to install SAP/Hana on thoses servers, and saw that the compatibility matrix of the editor specifies "Icelake-SP" for compatible processors.

Is there a difference between Icelake and Icelake-SP, or is it a commercial name for the same product ? And if there is a difference, how to know in which family is the Xeon 6342 ?

  Regards,

  Stephane.

Hello SChareton,

Greeting from Intel Customer Support!

Intel Xeon Gold 6342 processor is a part of the 3rd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processor family, known by its internal codename, Ice Lake. In commercial terms, it is often referred to as Ice Lake-SP.

Ice Lake processors, including the Xeon Gold 6342, are designed for server applications, optimized to handle tasks in data centers and enterprise-level environments. They offer enhanced performance, particularly in multi-threaded operations.

I've forgot a  point. From Linux the lscpu command returns :

model name      : Intel Xeon Processor (Icelake).

But on the processor page https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/215276/intel-xeon-gold-6342-processor-36m-cache-2-80-ghz.html, it is described as "Formerly Ice Lake". Does it mean that it is no more classified as an "Ice Lake" processor, or just that the name has changed (for IceLake-SP) ?

Stephane.
