Do I have a bad E5-2687w processor?

I'm getting errors from WHEA such as the one below. I have an ASUS z9-pe ws motherboard, with 2 E5-2687w processors. When using just one processor, I never see the errors. When using the second processor, too, I see the WHEA warning occur around the same time I get a system hang. No OC being done.

Also, my second processor's temperatures look wrong for one of the cores. Is core 1 normal? Room temperature is 69F. Core1 can't possibly be that low. Perhaps it's bad?

Temperatures:

Core0: 91F

Core1: 55F

Core2: 84F

Core3: 68F

Core4: 75F

Core5: 77F

Core6: 79F

Core7: 73F

A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core

Error Source: Corrected Machine Check

Error Type: Bus/Interconnect Error

Processor APIC ID: 32

Are both CPUs from one stepping/SKU or from different? Have you a latest BIOS in mainboard?

Yeah, I've double checked stepping to be the same. Here is what CPUZ reports for both (I remember checking the physical processors to be the same, too):

Family: 6

Ext Family: 6

Model: D

Ext Model: 2D

Stepping: 7

Revision: C2

Latest BIOS for the board has also been verified to be installed.

I suggest you to raise an ASUS support, it looks like defect mainboard.

Hello Nimesh,

I have some recommendations for you to try:

  1. First and as mentioned by JFFulcrum, confirm that the two processors have the same core stepping (spec code). As you can see it the following link, there two steps for this processor, C1 (SR0GX) and C2 (SR0KG): http://ark.intel.com/products/64582/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2687W-20M-Cache-3_10-GHz-8_00-GTs-Intel-QPI# @ordering http://ark.intel.com/products/64582/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2687W-20M-Cache-3_10-GHz-8_00-GTs-Intel-QPI# @ordering
  2. If the two processors have the same Spec code then try one unit at a time in the same CPU socket of the board and compare behaviors.
  3. You can also run the Intel® Processor Diagnostics Tool using one CPU at a time. This tool will report problems or errors if one of the units is malfunctioning. You can get the Intel® Processor Diagnostics Tool using the following URL: http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm

If you confirm that only one processor is giving issues you better request for warranty.
