Hi!,
I have a question about the international warranty for the i7 8700 processor.
Using this post as a reference: ,
"You can claim warranty globally for Intel® Boxed Processors except in Australia, China, and India. Those countries have country-specific warranty policies for Intel® Boxed Processors."
Since Australia has a country-specific warranty policy, I'm wondering:
a) if I were to purchase an i7 8700 cpu from an online US retailer, would international warranty apply?
b) If I were to buy a brand new i7 8700 off websites like Ebay, would warranty apply or be void?
Thanks!

I believe that you are entitled to the warranty provided within the country-of-purchase regardless of where you might end up living. As for the Australia situation, you would need to consult a lawyer for a definitive answer. I would hazard to guess that that warranty (and any additional rights that it may provide) would only apply to products that are purchased within that country.
I hope this helps. Really, this query needs to be answered by Intel Customer Support, who can consult Intel's legal dept. for guidance. I am unsure why they haven't at least acknowledged your query.

Sorry for the late reply Scott.
Your answer helped, but like you said I'd love for Intel's customer support to answer both my queries.
If you don't mind, do you have any idea on how intel's RMA process works? Does intel just want the serial number or do u need proof of purchase?
(Curious as I've spotted a great deal on an Intel cpu on Ebay but I'm worried about warranty).
Thanks!

My understanding is that the Intel warranty only applies for purchases made from authorized distributors and dealers. You aren't going to see many authorized distributors or dealers via eBay or AliExpress. Secondly, Intel warranties only apply to the original owner. If a processor changes hands, I believe its warranty terminates right there.
Yes, you do need to show that you purchased the processor from an authorized dealer and you do need your proof of purchase to verify the purchase date.
If you have a failing processor, here is the process you need to follow:
- You first need to verify that your warranty is still intact. You do so by going to this page: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/services/000006303.html?wapkw=warranty+check Determine if Your Product Is Still Under Warranty and following the instructions there. These other pages may help you with this process:
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/000005625.html# nuc Find Your Part Number, Stocking ID or Serial Number
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/processors/000005609.html Where Can I Find Intel Boxed Processors and Fan Part Numbers?
- If you have an intact warranty, then you next need to directly contact Intel Customer Support and setup the RMA. You cannot do this through this Communities site. Here are pages where you can lookup contact information, including local phone numbers, sorted by geography:
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support.html# @11 Intel Customer Support Contact Information for US and Canada
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support/emea-contact.html Intel Customer Support Contact Information for Europe, Middle East and Africa
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support/apac-contact.html Intel Customer Support Contact Information for Asia-Pacific
http://www.intel.la/content/www/xl/es/support/contact-support/lar-contact.html Intel Customer Support Contact Information for Latin America
Alternatively, you can use their online forms service or you can use email, but I recommend calling them directly. You could also use the http://intelsupportchat.force.com/icslivechat/ics_tech_desktop_ww_english_Chat Intel Customer Support Chat Service, but it is offered in English only and it is subject to normal office hours (9-5 M-F) in the Pacific (UTC-8) time zone.
- Next, using the paraphernalia provided, you would send your failing processor to Intel.
- When it arrives, Intel will inspect the processor and, assuming no customer-induced damage is detected, they will immediately send you back a replacement.
Hope this explains everything,
