In this Intel document https://newsroom.intel.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2018/04/microcode-update-guidance.pdf it states that the Xeon E5520 should have microcode 0x1c (28). But after updating to the latest intel microcode our server cpu reports version 25. Is version 25 the latest for this cpu? cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 15 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 26 model name : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5520 @ 2.27GHz stepping : 5 microcode : 25 cpu MHz : 1600.000 cache size : 8192 KB physical id : 1 siblings : 8 core id : 3 cpu cores : 4 apicid : 23 initial apicid : 23 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 11 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx rdtscp lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good xtopology nonstop_tsc aperfmperf pni dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 cx16 xtpr pdcm dca sse4_1 sse4_2 popcnt lahf_lm ida dtherm pti retpoline tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority ept vpid bogomips : 4520.71 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 40 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management:

Hi, Rarkileti,

The latest Linux microcode version of the Intel® Xeon® Processor E5520 was released on 4/25/2018.

I encourage you to try to update it using our recommendations described in the link below:

Linux* Processor Microcode Data File version 20180425

Yes I have already downloaded that file previously and updated the microcode. But cat /proc/cpuinfo still reports microcode version 25.

My original question remains: What is the latest microcode version for this cpu (Xeon E5520)? Is it 25 or 28?

Hi, Rarkileti,

The Intel® Xeon® Processor E5520 is still in production; Intel continues supporting it, so a newer release will be available probably soon.
