FPO and ATPO On Mobile Processor?

im having a bit of a predicament here with a warranty with square trade, here let me explain::

i purchased a recycled intel i7-2670QM processor from amazon about 4 months ago. the processor was listed as a salvage from an old computer.

after installing this into a laptop in which dell has told me numerous amount of times that "it can't be done" , the computer started informing

that i needed a higher watt output from a compatible adapter (it needed a 90W adapter), so after buying one from best buy and plugging it in,

it was nothing but smooth sailing... for about 2-3 months.

after which, the cpu was thermal throttling, had performance issues even when it was not throttling itself, slowly lost its ability to multi-task multiple programs, and then keel over and never turn on again.

enter squaretrade. i was smart in purchasing a warranty since the original seller only provided a 45 day return period, but here is the tricky part.

squaretrade insists that a processor 'salvaged' from an old computer is covered by the manufacturer warranty (i.e. intel) for at least '1 year'.

in which, i know is impossible because a.) the manufacture date of said processor is from the early 2000's, and b.) the processor is a mobile processor that was pulled and recycled from an outdated computer

i mean, come on, i installed this on a dell inspiron n7110 laptop that was built in 2011. even if products do survive their ''planned obsolescence" period, i doubt the warranty would still be in effect after 7-8 years.

so here i am, trying to find warranty info on this processor in which i can prove to squaretrade that intel will obviously not cover this and i can get my money back.

i did find info on the intel website that can provide warranty info on a processor if you enter the FPO and ATPO number thats written on the processors heat spreader..... yeah

this might be a problem

It is seven years old and a legacy processor. It is not supported on Windows 10, if that is your OS.

This is a used processor, long out of warranty. Also, if Dell did not support your effort, then you must abide by them. Adding to that, do you know for certain that the DELL bios supports this processor in your laptop?

Sorry, but there is no support here for the situation you have. You MUST resolve your issue with amazon and squaretrade.

So, if Dell does not support this processor in their laptop (and the question of BIOS support is still unanswered), what are you trying to prove? You want your money back for something the Dell advised against in the first place?

In my opinion, it is time to recycle the laptop for something newer.

the bios does recognize this processor as what its supposed to be and the processor did work with the computer. this processor model was an option for this line of laptop back in the day, but that is not the point

i was trying to find information on this processor because squaretrade has told me that the processor was listed as new (when it wasnt) and insisted that this processor had a one year manufacturer warranty when in fact it didn't. so they kept pressuring me to contact Intel and get information from them about the warranty info and have them RMA the chip.

not only were my suspicions correct, but your information matches exactly what intel's 'Warranty' department has told me.

so after playing the telephone game for a good hour or two (they literally had me back and forth with intel just to pass information) , the 'manager' at squaretrade made an 'exception' to process my claim anyway

That the bios displays the processor ID does not mean much. Read the 2nd paragraph here:

It still does not explain why Dell did not support you doing this.

However, I suppose all is well that ends well
