ANYONE- EITHER HAVE ADVICE ON HOW TO USE A XEON E5-1660, OR
WOULD LIKE TO OWN A BRAND NEW, PERFECT, SEALED IN-THE-NEWEST-BOX, WITH NEWEST
SPEC, BATCH ETC., AND WITH MORE THAN A FULL WARRANTY
I SOLD AN ASUS X77 EXTREME V AND INTEL 3770K AS I NEEDED A
FULL X 16 PCIe 3.0 AND A FULL X8 PCIe 3.0. I PURCHASED AN ASUS P9X79 PRO AND
INTEL 3930K. ALTHOUGH THE LARGE ADS WITH ALL X79 MOTHERBOARDS SAY PCIe 3.0
DOUBLE THE SPEED OF YOUR GTX 680, THE SMALL PRINT WITH THE LITTLE DEAD END *
SAYS THAT PCIe 3.0 IS ONLY POSSIBLE WITH THE COMPATIBLE PARTS; MEANING GRAPHIC
CARD AND CPU.
WHAT THIS ACTUALLY MEANS IS THAT ALTHOUGH I HAVE AN EVGA GTX
680 FTW+ 4GB $569 CARD AND A $320 ASUS PCIe 3.0 CAPABLE MOTHERBOARD, THERE IS
NOT A SINGLE CONSUMER DESKTOP CPU ON THE MARKET TO COMPLETE THE QUALIFICATIONS
FOR PCIe 3.0 SUCCESS.
MY INTEL $590 3930K CPU WILL NOT MEET THE STANDARDS THAT
INTEL SET FOR ITS OWN CHIPSET- SO MY QUESTION IS WHY ARE ANY MOTHERBOARD
COMPANIES ADVERTISING SOMETHING THAT ISN'T POSSIBLE? WERE THEY MISLEADING ME
AND THOUSANDS OF OTHER CUSTOMERS OR WERE THE MOTHERBOARD COMPANIES MISLED;
BELIEVING THAT OF COURSE THE X79 CHIPSET MAKER WOULD CERTAINLY BE PROVIDING THE
KEY COMPONENT TO MAKE THE GRPAHIC CARD DOULBED SPEED (PCIe 3.0) A SUCCESSFUL AND WORTHWHILE
INVESTMENT?
I HAVE SEARCHED EVERY FORUM, TECH OUTLET, REVIEW, MAGAZINE
ETC. AND I AM AMAZED THAT EVERYONE IS TAKING THIS LAYING DOWN. WHERE IS THE
FIGHT? I LITERALLY HAVE BEEN DENIED THE OPPORTUNITY TO USE WHAT I PAID DEARLY
FOR.
SO I BOUGHT A XEON E5-1660 FOR MY ASUS PRO AND ASUS SAID IT
WON'T SUPORT IT. I HAVE TO PURCHASE AN ASUS X79 WS WORKSTATION DESKTOP. THAT
MEANS SELLLING MY BOARD AND THE 39030K.
I OWN A BRAND NEW BOXED XEON E5-1660 THAT IS THE MOTHERLOAD
IN BATCH, S-SPEC, AND INTEL VERIFIES THAT THE WARRANTY IS A COUPLE MONTHS
BEYOND 3 YEARS- IT IS THAT NEW. I AM SELLING AND GOING BACK TO THE Z77.
# ONE--ANY ADVICE
# TWO--- ANY ONE LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT BOXED XEON E5-1660, BRAND NEW AND
UNOPENED DROP ME A PM. DON'T BUY A 3930K AND X79 AND EXPECT WHAT YOU WANT. THIS
CPU WITH THE DREAM MACHINE MOTHERBOARD WILL DO EXACTLY WHAT WE ALL SHOULD HAVE
GOTTEN. PM ME FOR A PATHWAY TO A SUCCESSFUL PCIe 3.0 BUILD.
THANKS ALL

We would like to inform that only the 3rd Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 Processors are designed to support PCIe 3.0 devices.
Unfortunately at this point, we cannot confirm if a new LGA2011 Processor will be released supporting the revision 3.0.

Hello Alvaro_Intel Thank you for your response to my concern. I already know that "officially" the Intel i7 Sandy Bridge E processors only support revision 2.0. I understand that Ivy Bridge i7 processors, being 3rd generation (such as the i7 3770K) will support revision 3.0 graphic cards that are 3.0 and installed on motherboards with PCIe 3.0 capability.
MY QUESTION IS RELATED TO THE XEON E5-1660, WHICH ACCORDING TO THE INTEL WEB SITE DOES SUPPORT REVISION 3.0.
SINCE THIS XEON E5-1660 DOES SUPPORT 3.0 AND THE ASUS P9 X79 WS MOTHERBOARD SUPPORTS BOTH PCIe 3.0 AND THE XEON E5-1660 PROCESSORS AM I OK TO BUILD A MACHINE THAT WILL BE ABLE TO SUPPORT 3.0 TODAY AND HAVE INTEL'S STAMP OF APPROVAL?
MY SECOND QUESTION IS DIRECTED TO ASUS KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE, AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE X79 WS SUPPORTS THE XEON E5-1660 THEN WILL THE ASUS X79 PRO MORE THAN LIKELY SUPPORT THE XEON E5-1660 PROCESSOR.
Thank you for any further clarification you can give and please know that I am not implying or asking if the i7 Sandy Bridge E (3960X, 3930K, or 3820) will have Intel "approval" as I already know that Intel says "offically" NO.
Thanks again.

This cannot possibly be the correct reply with regards to
the specs given on the XEON E5-1660. It clearly states that it is REV 3.0,
supporting PCIe 3.0X16 and then the Asus P(X79 WS (work station) clearly
indicates that the Xeon E5-1660 is a compatible CPU for this motherboard.
So the Asus advertisement that the board supports PCIe3.0
X16 as long as the two components, being the CPU and GPU, are both supportive
of PCIe 3.0, then I should be able to purchase the Asus X79 WS motherboard and
put my Xeon E5-1660 in it and should have my Evga GTX 680 FTW+ running at the
advertised speed of 3.0 x 16.
If I am being told that this is NOT POSSIBLE then why are
these motherboard manufactures selling any X79 motherboards at all? It appears
to have been a total waste of a generation and no one should have jumped on
board this "impossible to qualify" set of components.
Intel , not only did you have the final say on the certain
failure of an advertising promise made by motherboard companies, but you also
provided the very chipset that supposedly does give the motherboards the "readiness"
to support PCIe 3.0.
First you promise a Sandy Bridge E that in the closing hours
is stripped of Native USB 3.0, the expected number of Intel Sata III ports
based on the X79 chipset and not some "tossed in fix" so as to not render the
board a complete embarrassment, and the final blow was you found yourselves
faced with the decision of holding off the release of the CPU until the Rev 3.0
support was "fixed", and you chose to let the motherboard makers make promises
that Intel wouldn't allow them to keep, and you chose to let individual customers to
have hope that you certainly wouldn't leave them abandoned, and you prematurely
released a failure of a processor.
Intel hedged its bets knowing that companies like Evga would
make great improvements in Video Cards that even though they were remarkably
better, they still would not saturate a 2.0 X 16 PCIe slot. That would be
enough to pull the gamer's and enthusiast's attention away from the ethical,
moral and possibly legal failures and it bought you time; more time than I ever
thought possible
But I didn't build. I waited because I didn't want to have
to sell a used 3930K and a used Asus X79 Pro.
And then the XEON showed up and Asus Work Station users
claim they are getting the promised 3.0 PCIe X16. You see I also purchased a
Rev 3.0 $1,200 Areca 1882 ix12 4GB Raid Controller Card that needs an X8 PCIe
3.0. Tell me and don't beat around the
bush. I am running out of time.
Will this TRIO of the Asus P9X79 WS + Evga GTX 680 FTW+ 4GB
+ Intel XEON E5-1660 Rev 3.0 make me
even more angry because now I have 2 CPU"S to return to Intel and 2
Motherboards to return to Asus. I am not carrying this corporate failure on my
little shoulders and how could a Corporation as powerful and wealthy as Intel
to even suggest such a thing- that is what is most disturbing.
It is WRONG to sell a motherboard with PCIe 3.0 promises,
but the second leg of that promises is physically impossible because Intel
won't provide it. I am going to ask Asus to take back my X79 PRO that has sat
unused for 4 months waiting for the go ahead to have 3.0. It isn't coming is it?
I also will be sending my 3930k which was purchased to go
with the Asus X79 PRO as there were NO OTHER OPTIONS, yet it stripped me of my
right to meet the motherboard maker's requirement to have PCIe 3.0 capability.
This generation of CPUs' was a huge error on the part of Intel, and in
principle I will not stop until I am on the front page of the Wall Street Journal.
I have done it once before with another company and it seems that it is time to
rally the troops.
