We have plans regarding FPGA on Skylake CPU.
What are the hardware requirements for Intel Intel Xeon Gold 6138p ?
I could not find it neither in intel server configurator, neither it gave me any compatible motherboards from intel. Only chipset C621
We have servers with Intel S2600WFT motherboards. Is it compatible with it ?
Also is it true it is possible only in dual socket configurations ?
Thank You

On this link, under compatible products, I do not see the 6138p listed:
https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/89015/intel-server-board-s2600wft.html
However, the 6138, 6138F, and 6138T are listed as compatible.
I did find this link which may help you: https://serverconfigurator.intel.com/exodus/page?eventType=11&targetPageId=120113906&defaultFlag=1

I've looked at it. Sadly no help.
Currently 6138P is the only processor in Intel's lineup with integrated FPGA.
According to datasheet specifically this processor has unique power requirements.
So which intel server chassis PSU's are compatible with this specification ?

Hello LSlep,
The Intel Xeon Gold 6138p processors do not show as compatible with Intel Server Boards and Intel Server Systems as they are meant to be integrated by certain OEMs, due to the exclusive Arria 10 FPGA, which is not a common feature for common processor use.
Additionally, the The "P" suffix on the Xeon Gold 6138P processor denotes this SKU is a FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array)
This particular processor and all Xeon Scalable with the P suffix indicate that they include an Arria 10 FPGA integrated on it.
While the 6138 without the P does not contain this add on feature.
Finally, you can check the list of compatible Intel(R) processors with the Intel® Server Board S2600WFT here:

Could You please clarify why our Intel S2600WFT, S2600WFQ and other S2600WF server boards has options for enabling and disabling FPGA on each socket ?
For which processors is this option ?
As far as i know there are no other Xeon skylake processors with integrated FPGA other than 6138P.
I also doubt that intel would produce processor and not have matching motherboard.
Please clarify ant thank You for support.

Hello LSlep,
Those BIOS options are by design from our engineering department, in case we release a processor that support these features in the future on these server boards.

I see. Then it makes sense.
I've read in processor description thatit it is compatible with C621 chipset tha almost every intel server board has.
Seems like it's just a matter of time then 🙂 Is it on the roadmap ? Or if not, maybe You could provide list motherboard that supports it or at least vendors.
Currently our datacenter uses mainly Intel chassis and board and we would like to keep it this way.
We're curious to try it out with open virtual switch.
Is there a BIOS version that would enable this processor on intel board at least for testing purposes ?
Thank You for Your support.

Hello LSlep,
Currently, there are no Intel(R) server boards compatible with Intel® Xeon® Gold 6138p processor, this is because this processor is meant for OEM systems.
There is information about this processor here: https://itpeernetwork.intel.com/intel-processors-fpga-better-together/
In the article, it notes we released only to selected customers. So we wouldn't offer an Intel server board.
Finally, in regards to the BIOS version, we currently do not have or planning to release to have a version that will enable this processor.

Hello LSlep,
Are you referring to the Intel® Server Board S2600STB? If so, the Intel® Xeon® Gold 6138p processor is not compatible, you can confirm this information here:
https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/124477/intel-server-board-s2600stb.html
If you have tested with another Intel(R) Serverboard, please provide us the full model.

The model i've seen was S2600BT for sure. Could be prototype by intel. Codename "blue mountain pass".
Also on internet i found presentation with roadmap and reference to "blue mountain pass" S2600BL.
I don't know if those are generally available or still on the road map?

Hello LSlep,
For engineering sample units or OEM we do not guarantee compatibility since these units include more features than production servers for customer pre-production evaluation and test purposes.
Also as we mentioned before the Intel Xeon Gold 6138p processors do not show as compatible with Intel Server Boards and Intel Server Systems as they are meant to be integrated by certain OEMs, due to the exclusive Arria 10 FPGA
