I have a I5-2500, installed on a DH67GD motherboard (BIOS 0132) with stock HSF, not overclocked, using Arctic Silver in a LianLi case, with the cover removed.
When I go into the BIOS and check temps, it starts at around 50C and very quickly goes up into the mid 60s, sometimes to 70.
This doesnt sound like a good thing to me :-)
I have installed and reinstalled the HSF/CPU multiple times, being very careful to use the right amount of AS5. The HSF is rock solid on the board, and no obvious issue exists about the HSF not being seated well.
I have not tried to install Win7 yet, as these (idle) temps are scary if you ask me.
I have several other builds with G620/G530s on them that idle around 35 or so. I do understand that this is a more powerful CPU, and probably generates more heat, but something is wrong here...
I have no idea what to try next, please help?

Please keep in mind that when we access BIOS, the thermal control features are disabled. Therefore, the Temperature received will be higher than the idle Temperature received once the system boots to the Operating System.
As per the Processor specifications, the maximum normal Temperature for this Processor is 72.6 °C.
You can run the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool in this case. This tool will verify frequencies, Temperature and features.It will also run a stress test on the Processor. You can download this tool at:

I installed Win7, and ran multiple "core temp" type utilities - Intel Desktop Utils, CoreTemp, RealTemp. All of them report temperatures around 30 ish at idle. When I ran Prime95, the temps got up to 80 with all 4 cores at 100%, but then stabilized at 78-80.
But when I leave the CPU in the BIOS, I still have the same temp issues - but aside from being scary, this is a non-issue for me of course.
I never knew that the CPU would get so hot while sitting in the BIOS! :-)
Also, I think I am going to check out the recommendation for an after market cooler since this processor is destined to run a VMWare Server.

The stock Hsf that is included in the boxed Sandy bridge processers are not able to keep these units at safe operating temperatures. You would be better off getting an after-market hsf such as the cooler master 212 evo (one of the best value coolers out there). My i7-2600k was running at 35c-45c with the stock cooler...sounds like you got a really bad one.
All the testing in the world isn't going to change the efficiency of a poor quality product.
I would not advise any stress testing until you have something to keep the processor safely cooled.

Your in windows temps are fine, like stated be4 when u enter the bios all power saving functions are disabled hen e the higer temp.
80c with a stock cooler with prime on 4 cores is not bad at all.
Proves intel put a de ent cooler on the market.
But ofc there are better coolers out there.
If u have space i would sugest to get indeed a large cooler with 120mm fans.
Do i doubt your temps wil go down alot.
Also keep in mind that as does not reaches its full potential til after 200 hours
