For this 2008 processor, it comes down to the motherboard/chipset. Check the motherboard specs.

Al is absolutely right, but a tad terse. The issue is that, in that timeframe, the memory controllers were in the chipset, not in the processor. Thus, it is the chipset (Memory Controller Hub (MCH) or Graphics and Memory Controller Hub (GMCH), whichever the board supplies), in combination with the Memory Reference Code (MRC) implemented in the BIOS, that determines the maximum amount of memory that can be supported.
