Good morning, I have a question about the size of the I7 8550U and the I7 12700K - I mean, what dimensions do these processors have of that grey area where you put the thermal paste/thermopad suitable for this (in English it is called silicon die I think but I am not sure).
I'm asking because I want to replace the thermal paste with a good thermopad (the kind used for this, not a regular thermopad)
Thank you and best regards

Hello @123zgadujty
Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities. We would be more than glad to help you with your issue.
Based on the public information available, the sizes can be found on the datasheet of the CPU, i7-8550U Datasheet, and i7-12700K Datasheet.
On page 103 of the 12 Gen CPU, you can see the dimensions of the CPU Integrated heat spreader (HIS): 40.29mmx36.5mm; on page 203 the document says for specific dimensions (die size, die location, and so on), refer to the processor package mechanical drawings. Unfortunately, the mechanical drawings for Intel® Processors cannot be shared. Also, refer to page 201 Package Mechanical Specifications.
In case of more specific information, refer customers to Resource & Documentation Center (RDC) for detailed information and create a premier account if needed. RDC offers Intel confidential content, pre-release product info, design tools, and project support.
In the case of the 8th Gen page 15 provides the following information:
The processor is available in the following packages:
• A 46 mm x 24 mm BGA package (BGA1528) for U-Processor Line
• A 42 mm x 28 mm BGA package (BGA1440) for H-Processor Line
• A 37.5 mm x 37.5 mm LGA package (LGA1151) for S-Processor Line
Let me know if you need something else.
Best regards,
Isaac Q.
