Inquiry about Errata CLX1 of Intel® CAT/CDP in 2nd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors

Dear Intel Community,

I have a question regarding the errata identified as "CLX1. Intel® CAT/CDP Might Not Restrict Cacheline Allocation Under Certain Conditions" in the "2nd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors Specification Update" document and Intel® Resource Director Technology (Intel® RDT) Reference Manual.

The errata is shown as below.

  • CLX1. Intel® CAT/CDP Might Not Restrict Cacheline Allocation Under Certain
    Conditions (Intel® Xeon® Processor Scalable Family)
  • Problem: Under certain micro architectural conditions involving heavy memory traffic, cache lines might fill outside the allocated L3 Capacity Bitmask (CBM) associated with the current Class of Service (CLOS).
  • Implication: Cache Allocation Technology/Code and Data Prioritization (CAT/CDP) might see performance side effects and a reduction in the effectiveness of the CAT feature for
    certain classes of applications, including cache-sensitive workloads than seen on
    previous platforms.
  • Workaround: None identified.
  • Status: For the steppings affected, refer to the Summary Tables of Changes.

I would like to inquire whether Intel has addressed or plans to fix this errata in the successor products of the 2nd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors. I have tested that this problem still exists on Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6348 CPU (3rd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors), but the errata is not found in 3rd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors, Codename Ice Lake Specification Update.

We would like to notify you that, based on the documentation, Intel has no plans of fixing this errata, as confirmed by our engineering team. Additionally, please be aware that this erratum does not impact the longevity of the unit.


Furthermore, we would like to highlight that this same errata is not present in the 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable Processor. You can find more details in the reference link provided below.
