Unfortunately, I cannot provide any additional information as McAfee does not have a database for looking up the threats that it is enforcing.

Hello n_scott_pearson ,
We greatly appreciate your posts in our Intel communities.
We understand that you are having issues with your McAfee antivirus, as it is reporting an issue with the Intel Processor Utility.
In order for me to isolate the issue and provide the best solution, kindly provide the following information:
- When did the issue start?
- Was the system working fine before? I mean, have you tried installing the antivirus before and the issue did not appear?
- Please provide us with your SSU, as it would really help us if we could get more information about your system.
Kindly do the following:
1. Download the Intel® System Support Utility and save the application to your system.
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18377/intel-system-support-utility-for-windows.html
2. Open the application, tick Everything, and click Scan to see system and device information. The Intel® System Support Utility defaults to the Summary View on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says summary to change to Detailed View.
3. To save your scan, click Next and click Save. You can save the file to any accessible location on your computer.
4. Attach the text file here.
Thank you, and have a great day ahead!
Best regards,
Carmona A.

You don't need any of this information; it is not pertinent to the issue. I have run this installer on multiple machines (more than a dozen) that are similarly using the latest release of McAfee's LiveSafe suite. All systems (a mix of Windows 10 and 11) see the problem - and this includes machines using the non-Legacy version of the tool as well!
DM.DLL is the flagged file, just like in the original case. Either there is something about this file that is causing a false-positive when using McAfee or there is a real threat in this file.

Hello N_scott_pearson,
We understand that you are an individual knowledgeable when it comes to technical aspects, and we admire you for that.
We have tried to gather information with regards to the current issue that we have where McAfee Antivirus is reporting an issue with Intel processor identification utility, and as of now, there is no particular article or data with regards to why it is happening or why that error occurred.
We requested the SSU because we wanted to ensure that we could obtain as much information as possible so that we could do further research, as we were unsure of the specific cause of it at the time.
We hope for your understanding and cooperation on this matter.
And by the way, it is highly noted that the issue occurs in Windows 10 and even Windows 11.
Thank you, and have a great day ahead!
Best regards,
Carmona A.

BTW, the last version I have in my archive that will install without raising the McAfee LiveSafe response is v6.7.24. This is consistent across PCs with both Windows 10 and Windows 11, and with both newer and legacy processors. I have seen the McAfee issue crop up on v6.10.34, v7.0.4 and v7.1.6.

Hello N_scott_pearson,
Thank you so much for patiently waiting on our response.
We have raised this case with our management team, and they need more details to give a precise answer. Therefore, they are requesting more information about the issue that we have.
Kindly provide and answer the following:
1. What is the model of the processor? As we can see, 6.10.34.1129 is the processor identification utility version. If the processor is the 12th or later version, please use the 7.1.6 version of ProcID at https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/12136/intel-processor-identification-utility-windows-version.html.
2. What is the result of uninstalling the processor identification utility? Do you still get the same threat message from McAfee?
We will be waiting for your response!
Thank you, and have a great day!
Best regards,
Carmona A.

You need nothing more from me. You are asking about the model of the processor and I am saying it happens on a large set of PCs, Laptops and NUCs, crossing a large number of processor generations, so it is a processor independent problem. It happens with the latest McAfee updates and with a specific set of versions of the Current and Legacy Processor Identification Utilities.
Look. Take a PC (any PC), load Windows 10/11, load McAfee (I have LiveSafe, but any version with their VirusScan) and run the appropriate version of the utility. When you get to the appropriate point in the run of the utility, McAfee will detect the issue and quarantine the DLL (why, IDK), causing the utility to then fail.

Hello N_scott_pearson,
Thank you so much for patiently waiting on our response.
Based on our investigation, we have identified the cause of this issue, and we are planning to fix it in the next software revision.
However, we do not have an estimated date for the release of the revision. As a temporary solution, we suggest that our users turn off McAfee Live Scan before using the tool to prevent the error from occurring.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we appreciate your patience. We will keep you posted on any further developments.
Thank you, and have a great day ahead!
Best regards,
Carmona A.
