1/ The folder C:\ProgramData\Intel\Intel Extreme Tuning Utility is automatically restored even after it's deleted manually in safe mode.

2/ twelve similar components "Intel(R) XTU Component Device" are present in Windows 10 Pro device manager. ID SWC\PROVIDER_Intel_COMPONENT_XTU.

I think something is till present in my system.

Intel core i7-9750H

Windows10Pro 1090 18363.836

Thank you!

Did you uninstall XTU via apps and features? If not, it was the wrong thing to do to simply delete folders in programdata.

And, of course, your H processor is not supported by XTU.

I am sure you mean W10 Pro 1909.

The FAQ says https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005774/processors/processor-utilities-and-programs.html

  1. Uninstall Intel® XTU using Apps and Features.

2. You may want to reboot your system (optional)

So I did it like that.

I believe the fact that H is not supported is irrelevant here.

Go back to a system restore point before installing XTU.

Restore your bios to defaults.

That's is not possible.

Re-installing windows is not an option, too.

I did not say reinstall, I said restore point. Do you not have restore points on?

So we can get a better picture of what you have, Download, run, and save the results of this utility as a text file:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility

Then ATTACH the text file (using the paperclip under the toolbar).

I don't have restore points of that period.

The file is attached.

Thank you.

This doesn't work. There is no any application connected to my case that can be removed with it.

This software is meant to remove applications and in my case it's a driver.

Ok, then I recommend you do a "Windows Reset" or a fresh install.

Hello LMati5,

If you are still experiencing this issue, we would like to collect more information to better assist you.

  1. Please attach 1 screenshot of the contents of the folder that is being recreated automatically after every restart path "C:\ProgramData\Intel\Intel Extreme Tuning Utility" - make sure you enable 'View hidden files and folders'
  2. Send 1 screenshot of the Intel® XTU entries showing up in Device Manager
  3. Check the Apps & Features and let us know all programs that are listed with "Intel" in its name.

Hi!

Yes, the problem hasn't been solved.

The machine is a laptop Asus Rog Strix Scar III with an integrated Intel video and an additional nvidia RTX2070 GPU.

Here are the replies:

  1.  the contents of the folder that is being recreated automatically after every restart path "C:\ProgramData\Intel\Intel Extreme Tuning Utility"sceen1.JPG

2. Intel® XTU entries showing up in Device Manager. After I manually delete these components they show up again after the next reboot.

The number of issues of people running XTU on unsupported processors is ever-increasing, as well as the number of problems it causes.

Just saying...

Hello LMati5,

We have been unable to reproduce this issue in our lab. After installing Intel® XTU version 6.5.2.40 and uninstalling it via Windows 10 "Apps and Features", the app folder in [C:\ProgramData\Intel\] does not appear anymore, neither the entries in Device Manager.

This could be an anomaly linked to app usage. Please try the following workaround.

  1. Launch Intel® XTU installer (version 6.5.2.40)
  2. Click on 'Options'
  3. Turn on option 'Remove Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility Profiles and applications settings"
  4. Click 'Ok'
  5. Click on 'Install'
  6. Launch XTU.
  7. When message about joining 'Product Improvement Program' select 'No' and click 'OK'.
  8. Close XTU.
  9. Restart the system.
  10. Open Windows 10 -> Apps & Features.
  11. Select Intel XTU and click on 'Uninstall'
  12. When the installer appears, repeat steps 2 and 3.
  13. Click on 'Uninstall'
  14. Restart the system.
  15. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Intel\ and delete the XTU folder.
  16. Restart the system and check if issue persists.

Thank you for the elaborate walk-through.

Everything went fine until step 15.

When trying to delete the C:\ProgramData\Intel\Intel Extreme Tuning Utility folder I got a message from Windows 10 Explorer

++++++++++++++++++++++

The folder is in use. The action can't be completed because the folder is open in another program. Close the folder and try again.

Intel Extreme Tuning Utility

Date created: 30.05.2020 15:59

++++++++++++++++++++++

The time/date is the moment when I deleted the folder manually in safe mode trying to remove the app completely from the system.

The folder contains the following files/folders. I tried to delete them one by one to check which of them exactly is in use:

Logs\

IntelOverclockingSDK.20200612-0907584645.log

IntelOverclockingSDK.20200612-0914268064.log <- this file is in use

XtuCore.20200612-090751621.log

XtuCore.20200612-0914172462.log <- this file is in use

Temp\

+empty+

PerformanceSettings.bin

Profiles3.db <- this file is in use

According to the error message of Explorer (when trying to delete them) the 3 items can't be deleted because the are in use by Armoury Crate Service which is a part of Asus default software for this laptop:

https://rog.asus.com/us/innovation/armoury_crate/

So, is this the answer?

Are these files installed with the Asus Armoury Crate package?

Are the 12 units of "Intel(R) XTU Component Device" part of the Asus Armoury Crate package?

Thank you!

Hello LMati5,

Thank you for the update.

"Are these files installed with the Asus Armoury Crate package?

Are the 12 units of "Intel(R) XTU Component Device" part of the Asus Armoury Crate package?"

This could be a possibility.

Please open 'services.msc' and take a screenshot of all the services with Intel name in it.

I did that and got the following result:

After reboot C:\ProgramData\Intel\Intel Extreme Tuning Utility\ was empty.

1/ As soon as I run Asus Armory Crate utility the file C:\ProgramData\Intel\Intel Extreme Tuning Utility\Logs\IntelOverclockingSDK.20200617-1204122728.txt was created (see pic below).

2/ the XTU service is disabled and stopped (see pic below)

3/ Numerous Intel XTU component device remain in Device Explorer.

4/ the content of C:\ProgramData\Intel\Intel Extreme Tuning Utility\Logs\IntelOverclockingSDK.20200617-1204122728.txt says it's part of Asus Armory Crate utility:
