Hello all!
I have a rather specific question (issue) I am migrating a SCADA server which is currently running WinXP professional. (Don't ask me, I did not do that implementation)
Due to SCADA license limitations, I can only migrate to Windows server 2008R2. My hardware supplier put together a system containing a Intel Xeon Silver 4208 processor. However I cannot find anywhere if this processor is supported under my planned OS.
Are there folk in here who can answer the question? See full system spec below!
P.S. I know about end of life of Win server 2008 etc. Thing is that upgrading SCADA license cost is an additional $100k so it's not really an option. The reason why I want server 2008R2 (enterprise) is to use more than 4GB Ram.
Thanks for your input,
Regards,
Jarno

Hello jvdberg2021,
Thank you for posting your question on this Intel® Community.
OS compatibility is not defined by the Intel® Xeon® processor or a server's chipset, but it is dependent on the operating systems supported by the server system. The system manufacturer will validate certain operating systems with the system and provide drivers for the supported operating systems.
According to the information available in the following site from Lenovo* ThinkSystem SR530 Server (Xeon SP Gen 1), it seems that the server does not support Windows* Server 2008 R2.
Link: https://lenovopress.com/lp0639-thinksystem-sr530-server-xeon-sp-gen1#operating-systems
I found another source from Lenovo*, the Lenovo Server Operating System Interoperability Guide (OSIG), that also confirms that this operating system is not supported by this specific server.
Link: https://lenovopress.com/osig#servers=sr530-7x07-7x08&support=all
I hope you find this information helpful.
If you have further questions about OS compatibility, our recommendation is that you contact Lenovo* for OS compatibility information. If you encounter issues when using one of the OEM's supported operating systems, ensure that you have the latest BIOS firmware and drivers installed from the OEM.

Thank you for the information, I will look for another (older or second hand) system to run our SCADA solution.
