Intel i7-14700k Overheating?

Hello.

I have recently (2 days ago) just built a new pc.

My comps are: i7-1400k Gibabyte Aorus z790 UD AX,850W gold be quiet , 32gb ddr5 6000mhz,rtx 4070 ti super,arctic liquid freezer II (AIO) 420 a-rgb ,lianli cool 3.

I am wondering if my processor reaching (spiking) 91/90+ degrees is a concern.

Gaming i get around 60/70/80 ,depending on game.Sometimes it spikes around 90 (97 was max it spiked).

I've seen on reddit threads ppl with same cpu but different AIO not going over (for example) 65degrees in Fortnite, where i get around 75.Just today i switch ultra settings on and my PC restarted instantly. In event viewer i get this:The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000009c (0x0000000080000001, 0xffff828168d39b20, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)

In stress tests i got a maximum of 103 in max load.

Are these numbers right, or should i get my pc checked?

My default response:

Make sure the cooler is properly installed.  Do it again to make sure.

Update the bios.

Set bios to default settings.

I re-installed the cooler 2 times already xD...Thermal paster 2 times aswell. So those shouldn t be a problem.

Bios is at latest version..

Let's put these temperatures in perspective. Temperature volatility in Intel processors seems to be climbing higher and higher. There is no way that ANY existing thermal solution (that I know of) can keep up with temperatures that spike near Tjmax in literally seconds. What is important is that the thermal solution pulls these temperatures down to more-reasonable levels as quickly as possible. The temperatures that you have provided are perfectly fine. It is unclear that the bugcheck has anything to do with temperature.

What stress test did you use that you got a temperature reading of 103c? Was this a short-term spike or did the temperature stay in this vicinity? If the latter, did the temperature fall to more reasonable levels over time? If not, as Al indicated, your cooling solution could be inadequate, improperly installed, improperly configured or simply is not working properly.

Now, the first thing that Intel will ask for is for you to download and run the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and then attach the report file to a response post.

The second thing that Intel will ask for is for you to download and run the Intel System Support Utility for Windows and then attach the report to a response post. When you start the utility, select Everything and then click on Scan. Once it completes the scan process, click on Next and then Save. Pick a name for the text file to create and click on Save to create it. You can then close the app and attach the report file to a response post.

Hope this helps,

I have attached the results from intel app's testings aswell as my temps while running the tests.

I used Cinebench and then prime94/aida64. In prime/aida i got lower temps by 3-4degrees.The 100c/103c were let s say constant for 4-5seconds then fluctuating:90+ then 100 90+- then 100 again and so on(sometimes even 85+-)

The 90+- spikes where short term in gaming i guess, because it were the maximum temperatures registered in HFiNFO64.

For example in games like CS,my average was 65 with highest spike being 84. Everything ultra.

In Apex Legends, highest spike was 94 , average 75. Everything ultra.

Fornite,highest spike 77 average 63. Everything ultra.

So that Bugcheck only happened the one time? You should still report it to the Fortnite folks.

As for temperatures (and throttling),

  • 4-5 seconds is just a spike.
  • Average temperatures at or below 90 is fine.
  • I have seen other posts where folks are fighting to get to what you have.
