Intel i7-7700k High CPU Usage/Temp for all processes.

Hey,

I have been trying to troubleshoot this all on my own but have come to my wits end.

I bought the Intel 7th Gen Intel Core Desktop Processor i7-7700K (BX80677I77700K) as well as the https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NBHXSP6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ASUS ROG Maximus IX Hero LGA1151 DDR4 DP HDMI M.2 USB 3.1 ATX Motherboard from amazon with an EVGA GForce 980. Since Installation my CPU has been running seemingly high CPU Utilization for every process comparatively. For example: Tom Clancy's: Rainbow Six Siege has been taking up 70-80% of my CPU processing power whenever I run it, and even then the game still feels a little choppy. Even the CPU Idle temperatures are running a little high (30C at the time of writing this with only this(Opera) and HWMonitor running.) And thats with the Corsair H100I Liquid cooling rad running properly on it too. (And new thermal paste)

My Old Mobo/Processor combination (x-99 Deluxe 2011-v3 with a i7-5820k Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3Ghz) did not have such problems with heat (Rarely going above 40C even during high-load) even when I did similar things (Rainbow Six) and more (OBS recording/streaming, Youtube music, Discord, etc). In addition Windows, Asus, and Intel are all indicating that my drives are up to date (Including BIOS) and that everything should be peachy keen. There is no bloat ware running (to my knowledge) Malwarebytes is turning up 0 hits for malware etc. At this point it seems my processor is just taking an abnormal amount of processing power to process even easy tasks, like Opera running an Intel help page which is taking up roughly 5% of total CPU utilization even right now!

Pls send help! Do I need to send my processor/motherboard back to amazon and ask for new ones?

Hello BlackJackAres,

Thank you for contacting the Intel community.

Please try installing the latest graphics driver from the Intel website, you can download it here:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26563/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-45-?product=98909 Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows* [15.45]

I suggest uninstalling the graphics driver installed and then install this version.

If you get an error installing this driver, try manual installation, please check how to http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html Manually Install an Intel® Graphics Driver in Windows® 10 and Windows 8*/8.1*

Also, you said that you drivers and BIOS is up to date but I suggest contacting your motherboard manufacturer for new possible version that can help you isolate this issue. You can check for a new BIOS version at the following link:

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-MAXIMUS-IX-HERO/HelpDesk/ https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-MAXIMUS-IX-HERO/HelpDesk/

NOTE: This link is being offered for your convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement by Intel of the content, products, or services offered there.

To check for processor issues you can run the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool

Please bear in mind that corrupted drivers can cause high CPU utilization and for this reason is good to reinstall the drivers, you can download the drivers for your system at the same link I posted above from ASUS.

Damaged programs can all lead to this type of problem, so it will be good to reinstall programs that you frequently use to see which one is causing the issue.

Disconnect Peripherals? Shut down your computer and unplug all external devices such as Printers, Scanners and Backup Drives. Leave only your Mouse, Keyboard and Internet Connection plugged in and reboot your computer to see if the problem is still there. If the problem goes away, plug things back in, one at a time until you have isolated the problem device.

Shut Down Startup Items? Use msconfig to Shut down all startup programs and reboot the computer to see if the problem goes away. If it does then go back and methodically turn back ON individual startup items until the problem returns. Once you isolate the offending program, you can Google the name of the file to find out which program it is related to. To use MSCONFIG click on START and then RUN and type msconfig in the run box and then click on OK. Click on the STARTUP tab and you will be presented with a list of items that are going to run automatically every time the computer starts. You can select or deselect any items that you want to start when your computer boots. Now click on OK and reboot your computer. You can go back anytime and run msconfig to turn back on any items that you choose until you find which one is causing your problem.

If you system was working fine at some point I suggest to do a system restore if it is possible or reinstall the operating system, this is the nuclear option if this does not solve your problem, then you have and hardware problem and either the processor or the motherboard needs to be replaced.

I hope this can help.

Best regards,

Ivan.

Hello, i have the same problem as BlackJackAres with my i7-7700k and H100i v2. So i tried to install the latest graphic driver from intels webpage. Then when i was going to identify my intel graphics controller i noticed that i have no "display adapter" section in my device manager. So i cant install the latest intel graphic driver. Could this be why i have the problems with my cpu? If so, How do i fix it?

I have installed the latest graphic driver for my gpu and the "display adapter" section still didn't appear.

System Specs:

Motherboard:

MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon, S-1151

Graphics Card:

CPU:

Intel Core i7 7700K 4.2 GHz 8MB

CPU Cooler:

Corsair Hydro H100i v2

Memory:

Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Vengeance LED - Red

PSU:

Corsair RM850i 850W

SSD:

Samsung 850-Series EVO 500GB

HDD:

Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200rpm 64MB

Would really appreciate any help

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards, Albin.

If you press Ctrl-I + F12 on your keyboard and the Intel® HD Graphics Control Panel appears is because you have the driver installed. If you don't have the latest installed you can download it at the following link and run the .exe file.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26836/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-45-?product=98909 Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows* [15.45]

I also suggest you to install the latest BIOS for your motherboard BIOS, you should be able to get the latest version at the MSI website:

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z270-GAMING-PRO-CARBON.html https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z270-GAMING-PRO-CARBON.html

If you need help to update the BIOS I suggest you to contact MSI for further support.

Being that the case, download the zip file and manually install the driver, before installing the driver manually uninstall the older driver, please see https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005598.html Uninstalling the Intel® Graphics Driver and Intel® Display HDMI/Audio Driver, once the driver is uninstalled do not restart your system and disconnect the internet so Microsoft d not push with any automatic update and then follow the steps at the following link to install the driver manually.

I can't download it manually either because for some reason i have no "display adapter" tab in my device manager. So i can't identify my intel graphics controller or update it with the zip file.
