Is it normal to have i7-8550U with two cores?

Hello, All,

My laptop is thinkpad t480s, and I find it slower and slower recently. After a carefully check, I find that in task manager, the cpu i7-8550u is with 2 cores and 4 threads. But officially I find the cpu should have 4 cores and 8 threads.

I check it with lenovo but they suggest to reinstall win10. It is not a good solution. Is there any tools or configuration to solve the problem? thanks in advance.

Hi,

Check if the number of cores enabled is limited in MSConfig... Check this link for reference...

https://www.alphr.com/enable-all-cores-windows/

There is a checkbox "Number of processors". When it is unchecked, it means no limit is in place, therefore, the system should use all the cores depending on the workload demand... Otherwise, I would think there could be a BIOS setting that might be also restricting the number of cores active (in which case, you need to check the BIOS user's manual or ask Lenovo for help...)
