Hello all.
I am having the HPE Proliant ML30 Gen9 used as home server. It has 64GB of RAM installed (4 Kingston ECC Modules X 16GB each) and so far it worked flawlessly with the Intel XEON E3 1230 v5. Yesterday i have purchased the Intel XEON E3 1280 v6 however it know configures only 32GB of RAM instead of the total 64GB. The interesting part is that all of the 64GB of RAM are acknowledged in HP ILO and in the POST BIOS menu. However during the inital "memory training" phase the BIOS performs only the 32GB are configured as usable.
I would appreciate any help!

Hello!
Finally i resolved the issue. It has turned out that the 1151 socket had bent/broken pins. After removing the problematic socket and soldering a new one all the 64GB of RAM are acknowledged.

I was reviewing your case and I verified the Max Memory Size of the Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1280 v6 and it supports 64GBs.
Our best recommendation will be to contact HPE Support in order to verify if your system will require a different version of BIOS or if the issue is related to the memory population of your system.
Unfortunately, due to the system is not an Intel Server System I cannot provide you the most accurate recommendation, moreover as I mentioned above I checked the Max Memory Size of the processor and it supports 64 GBs and also I checked if the processor is compatible with your system and according to the following link: https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getpdf.aspx/c04834991.pdf, It is compatible.
Please contact HPE support, I am pretty sure they will be more than happy to assist you and they will provide you the more accurate information and solution.

Hello Emeth.
I really appreciate the quick reply on the matter. I have forgot to also provide a clue which could shade more light on the discussion and the possible root cause.
This particular server is being loaded with four KVR21E15D8/16 16GB Kingston Modules that operate at a maximum frequency of 2133MHz.
So i am wondering if this issue is related either to:
- Incompatibility of the CPU/RAM memory clock. Since i read that the E3 1280 v6 CPU requires RAM with 2400MHz clock speeds.
- Bent pins in the socket not clearly visible with naked eye. I have not observed something with close inspections, but this is just a wild guess.
- Another possibility i am thinking was if this HPE systems are having a spare memory redundancy operating only with the latest processors. So from the 64GB the 32GB are used and the other half is being used as redundancy in case of failure.
As for the HPE they cannot provide any assistance since i am not using the HPE RAMs but the Kingston ones.

PS: The below info is as coming from ILO. It indicates basically that only the first module of each channel is being detected. Any further help is appreciated! Thank you! Have a nice day and stay healthy!

Did you ever solved the issue?
I've upgraded my HPE ML30 Gen9 from an Intel Xeon E3-1220 v5 to an Intel Xeon E3-1280 v6.
After booting only 32 of the 64GB memory is detected.
I've installed 4x16 GB modules, capable of 2400 MHz, see the image below.
