I'm repurposing an old rack server into a lab system to test some new virtual products we are offering/supporting.
The mainboard is:
The Processors x4 are: Xeon E5-4620
The board shows a max memory capacity of 1.46 TB of RAM but the individual processors show a maximum capacity of 384 GB.
My question is can I load the board up with over a TB of RAM since there are 4 processors? Or is the 384 GB cap of the processor mean that's the maximum amount a system running that processor can have regardless of socket number?
Also does anyone have any suggestions of possible CPU alternatives that could increase performance while maintaining the board and purchasing the standard ECC ram currently compatible with both board and CPUs.
