Official Stance on Delid

Has Intel released an official policy statement on whether a delid will void the warranty?

Also, does the "Tuning Plan" cover delid if the damage is not related to a delid?

I have read some reports of Intel taking the delidded CPUs in for warranty.

Thanks,

James

Hello RockitCool,

I understand that you want to inquire on Intel's ® warranty policies about physical damage.

In this case Delidding the processor is considered a damage to the product since the CPU changed from its originally shipped condition. Tampering with the product violates the Three Year Limited Warranty for Intel® Boxed Processors.

You can check our Warranty policies here:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000007223/processors.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000007223/processors.html

Regarding our Performance Tuning Protection Plan, it will not cover physical damage and it is intended to cover processors that were overclocked.

You can check the FAQ'S about it here:

I hope this helps.

Hi Diego,

Thank you for clearing that up for me.

It's good to know the real deal instead of rely on hearsay, rumors and opinions.

Thanks,

James
