Hello everybody.

I have some problems with my Intel Core I7-4790K processor. I got random freezes and blue-screens so I decided to reinstall my computer hoping it would fix it, because last time one of my drivers got corrupted and it fixed it then.

However after the re-installation it still is not working correctly where people suspected multiple errors on my Hard drives, but all proven clean by tests.

Here is the information I have for the computer if it helps, problem will be futher explained after the list.

So I have been playing games and had random freezes in games, so I decided to clean it up like it normally works. Little surprise it didnt ofcourse. After that reinstalling was the best option to do, since it happened some time before that the driver got faulty after the cleaning.

However it didnt fix it, I still got the screen-freezes and BSOD.

I tested all the aboving things on faultyness (memorytest, fantest, GPU-test) but it didnt trigger the problem.

After testing a program that tested the CPU I got an instant response by a computerfreeze and a BSOD. I have 2 BSOD in here.

I have tested the following and gave errors:

Prime95 - BSOD when turned on (exactly that moment), Screenfreeze.

Intel Diagnostics - Test Failed,

Hopefully somebody can help me with this and if necessary I will give information where needed futher.

Hi Mr.Weegee: Thank you very much for contacting the Intel® Processor communities. We are sorry to hear the PC is not working properly.

In order to try to fix this problem we can install the graphics driver version provided by Gigabyte, 4364:

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z87X-OC-rev-1x# support-dl https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z87X-OC-rev-1x# support-dl

Since the processor works with Intel® HD Graphics 4600, we can also test driver, 4835:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27267/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-40-?product=81496 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27267/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-40-?product=81496

If the problem persists after that, the next thing to do if you have the option will be to swap parts, either to test your processor on a different board or test your board with a different processor to confirm the source of the problem.

The fact that the processor failed the Intel® Processor Diagnostics tool test indicates that there might be a problem with it, so, if you are interested in the replacement of the unit please get in contact directly with Intel to confirm if the processor is eligible for warranty:

hi

try to use the f9c firmware for your z87x-oc, because I try to use the f8 one, because on that bios firmware always overheat on 4790k

check that out.

https://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=14807.0 https://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=14807.0

because I am using 4790k on z87x-oc, and after I use f9c bios, and set the cpu vcore 1.256 can be overclock to 4.6gb with fan.

also if you overclock on your cpu, I will recommend go google can search a tool call ubu tool, that tool can help you update your f9c bios microcode from 19 to new version 22. and get more cold and stable on overclock, I hope this information can help

I try to work on this motherboard for a long time too.

I hope this can help

thank you

I know this is an old thread, but I have the same problem, decent case corsair hydro 75i water cooled.

To get rid of the fan helper error, uninstall the software suite and just install the GPU driver and motherboard drivers

As for the overheating, there are a ton of threads that show the 4790 has serious issues with heat, I have tried 3 different water coolers. Have 5 case fans and changed airflow on water cooler to pull and case fans 1 pull and rest exhaust including the two on top of case. The case is 25 degrees GPU 29 SSD 30 and motherboard around the same, yet the processor jumps from 45 straight to 80 degrees and then starts failing playing any game. GPU is an asus ROG 1060 strix MB ASUS z97 pro gamer.

Sad to say I have come to the conclusion that this processor sucks. even turned off cpu boost in the easy tune settings, so it will not go above 3600.
