will a older generation processor work on a new motherboard that says it supports 8th and 9th gen
It all depends on what processors are supported by the motherboard bios. To know that, you have to ask the motherboard manufacturer.
thanks this helps a lot
Some motherboard manufacturers publish a support page for their boards, listing all the processors supported and minimum bios level. You may want to look at that.
would knowing the chipset help?
Not really. If a motherboard supports the socket, and the motherboard bios supports the processor, then the chipset is assumed.
ok. would this be the bios? 1 x 128MB Flash ROM, UEFI AMI BIOS, PnP, DMI3.0, SM BIOS 3.1, ACPI 6.1
Well, that is part of it. What is the model number of the motherboard?
here it is: ROG STRIX B365-F GAMING
Here is a list of processors and bios level support for that board:
thanks so much
Glad to help..
