Thank you very much. Please forgive my ignorance, but what are the limitations of the locked version? This is for a personal build.

1.  Unlocked processors can be Overclocked for faster than factory core speeds, therefore improve the processor performance. Locked processors cannot be Overclocked. Working in Overclocked regime, requires better cooling solution and adequate Power Supply. 2. See the list of Intel 9th generation processors. For example i9-9900 is locked processor and i9-9900k has unlocked frequency multiplier

4. My personal opinion is that unless you are not heavy gamer and/or you are not looking for breaking records in processor performance, there is no need to overclock the CPU. The locked i9-9900 appears to be very powerful processor.

Thanks again, Leon. No overclocking for this non-gamer. The i9 build is going to blow away my 8 year old i3 system. I am guessing that the stock cooler will suffice for most non-gaming applications?

The Thermal Solution (heatsink + fan) packed in box with the locked CPU, is suitable for keeping this CPU in all working conditions (including Intel Turbo Boost).
