Question about the calculation of processor flops

Hi intel members,

I found the processor flops calculation formula in previous post as below:

Theoretical Max Value = Processor speed (GHz) * (4 FLoating-points OPerations per Second) * (Number of physical cores)

Here is my questions:

1.The formula says the number 4 is "FLoating-points OPerations per Second". I believe this is a typo, it is not flops, it should be "design constant".

2.Is design constant the same in different processor?

For example, we are trying to calculate the flops of  Intel 8171M CPU, Intel 8168 CPU. What would be the constant?

3.Since we are trying to calculate the Theoretical Max Value, should we use the maximum frequency or just basic frequency.

Thanks.

Hello,

Thank you for your patience.

I was reviewing the information and The formula "Theoretical Max Value = Processor speed (GHz) * (4 FLoating-points OPerations per Second) * (Number of physical cores)" is really old and came from a really old Intel support web article that I came across and it was archived last year.

The information is obsolete. We also no longer provide an updated GFLOPS formula.

Instead, we provide the GFLOPS values for Intel processors in the Export Compliance Metrics article at: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005755/processors.html .

If a particular processor SKU is not listed, customers can request the information using the email address listed in the Note box at bottom of the article.

If you have more questions do not hesitate and let me know and I will be more than happy to assist you.

Hi Emeth,

Really appreciate your help, since I can't find the CPU I am looking for in the list., I will check it with the email address in the article.
