Hi,
for about 6 month, my system was running stable without any issues. Suddenly the system started freezing (OS hanging, reset via on/off button or cutting power supply) or BSOD-ing (Clock_watchdog_timeout). All of that came out of the blue, no hardware changes, no BIOS changes, no major software changes (except Windows updates and NVIDIA driver updates).
What I observed:
- the behavior seems pretty random. It started freezing during gaming (e.g. after playing Cyberpunk for an hour), then sometimes in Windows on idle, then on Windows login screen, right after entering my password, later during Windows reinstallation… almost in every situation, except inside BIOS
- In the cases where it BSODs its mostly Clock_watchdog_timeout. Collecting data is stuck at 0%
- After some fiddling around (update BIOS, reset CMOS, check PSU cable connections, reset Windows to a restore point 1 week before the freezes began) I thought it was fixed. System seemed stable. After gaming for about 45min it froze and became extremly unstable again
What I tried:
- Check cable connections
- Update bios and reset CMOS
- Install Windows again (took 3 attempts because it froze)
- Ran MemTest86 (no errors)
- Ran Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool (no errors)
- Ran Samsung SSD checker tool (no errors)
- Ran load tests on CPU and GPU (all stable, temperatures in a normal range)
My system specs:
- Intel i5-13600KF
- MAG B760 TOMAHAWK WIFI (MS-7096)
- 32GB Kingston FURY Beast DDR5-5200 DIMM CL36 Dual Kit
- 2TB Samsung 980 Pro M.2 PCIe 4.0
- 650 Watt be quiet! Straight Power 11 Modular 80+ Platinum
- Gainward GeForce RTX 4070 Ghost
- latest BIOS version, all settings on default
- Windows 11, all latest stable updates
- All drivers up to date
Any idea what I can try to fix it or at least how I can figure out what causes the problem would be highly appreciated.
