my i7-7000 processor needs replacing.
Intermittent crashes and on a stress test Core 0, Thread 0 failed.
I have an ASUS ROG STRIX Z270F motherboard; this has an Intel® Socket 1151 7th Gen.
Can you please recommend a new processor

Since it is discontinued, you have the used market to search, or maybe someone has NOS.

And, have you updated the motherboard bios?
As far as replacement processors, you can only use (on that board) what asus says you can use:

Bought a refurbished i7-7700k and fitted it.
The system has not crashed since.
